Description

Started this summer. Live in Smiley Park, just below Running Springs & for some time have wanted an affordable & do-able way to fly off of the mountain. Think I've found it in Paragliding, though not opposed to learning Hangliding. Had a tandem flight late Spring off of a hill in Calabasas with Claude Fiset, after watching another try to get certified. Since then I've had two lessons at Claude's home on a hill in Ojai. Not yet airbourne, except for maybe 100' at 0 to 8 feet high & a few less guided excursions too close to grass & brush to count. If I don't make it for a lesson this week, I'll make it next. Its very exhausting, up & up & up the hill for 4 hours! But I'm determined to make it happen. Claude is a long way away, even when in Malibu, but he's been instructing & piloting for 20 years or more & has his own inovations, particularly re powered flight. Eventually, thats what I'll be doing, once I've mastered PGing without power. We have a chopper landing site for fires & emergencies, just down from Smiley Park, that I'd like to take off from, or possibly another open area on my street, Holly Drive, that opens up to the foothills & SB/Highland/Redlands Valley. I'm male, 59, & had a place here at 1 mile high since '87. Like to get in comm with others using PGs, HGs or even Ultralights. I'll continue lessons with Claude, & may buy his products soon, but closer mentors or teachers would also be desirable. I'm NOT available weekends ever, as my most steady income is from Weekend Rug Sales. You may have seen me with my rugs in Running Springs or Big Bear (I also do Riverside & San Diego Counties), or my name on the Adopt-A-Highway signs on 330 recently (8 miles: Tarbell Realtor, Marquis Magic Carpets & the Way To Happiness booklet). I would especially like to meet any pilots not confined to the weekend. Believe or not, I have never seen a glider off of Crestline, but am always set up elsewhere on weekends.
