Founding Members Roster to USHPA

Last chance to register your name with USHPA as one of the founding members of the new Soboba Soaring. Get your name on this historical document

All the paperwork is ready to send to USHPA for our Soboba Soaring Charter. Along with insurance forms, and organization’s bylaws one must summit a roster of members. I have purposely held up this filing so more people could have a chance to get on our “FOUNDING MEMBERS” roster.

Merry Christmas from Soboba Soaring

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

It's been a wonderful year. Only three months ago we were about to be evicted from our Soboba flying site when a group of flyers pooled their hard earned money and bought the site. Now we have a place to fly indefinitely, as long as the bills get paid. This is a HUGE VICTORY for the flying community, but we need you to support the site by joining the club.

Big Doings At Soboba

For those who don't regularly follow the happenings at Soboba; big things are afoot.

This weekend's planned fly-in is cancelled (bank has foreclosed on the property owner who had been supportive for many years). But the Soboba guys are purchasing the property next to the current LZ.

Congratulations on the big acquisition!

Tuesday Soboba to Andy Jackson

Soboba to AJ Airpark looks good to me for Tuesday afternoon given the big lapse rate and the SE flow. I haven't done anything more than boat around Soboba before, so any XC info would be helpful, and the more pilots the merrier. I don't see why hangies can't do the flight, but I was thinking this would be a bag-fest while the big boys go OTB from Crestline.

Marshall, Sunday March 29 2009

Launched Marshall at 11:45 and flew 2h 20 min, reaching 7k. General wind condition was SE. Lots of lift over the valley, over the LZ. Landed 'cause I wanted to also fly Soboba.

Launched Soboba at 3:45 in easy lift and flew 2 hours. Clouds started popping and a solid cloudbase started forming and lowering towards the end of the afternoon. "Only" got to 5.5k but the lift over the valley was far-reaching. Pictures:

Visiting from Denver,CO wanting to fly Soboba

I'm coming to fly the San Diego area March 6th - 11th and was told to check out Soboba. I'm a P2 pilot with 79 flights so far, most of my experience is in North Boulder,CO with a hike up site 650' most flights never last more then 5 minutes. I have flown in Jackson Hole and Monument,CO @ Mt. Herman which is a 1800' cliff launch. I really can't wait to come and check out some of San Diego's local sites.

I need an air fix.

I have come out to CA to visit my parents and kids. I brought my pedator out to possibly get an air fix. My parents live in Hemet. will be here until December the 28 th. Would love to gey my hair in the air. If anyone wants to fly call me at 801-643-1069. I will come pick you up. I have a driver GPS and radio.

Soboba 11-1-08

I recieved a ride up on the quad from Darell so no hiking for me today. Not needing to catch by breath or anything I launched right away ( it was about 1:30pm ) I climbed stright up to over the top. It was really smooth air and I played around above launch trying to intice the rest of the group to come up. ( i had left my radio at home charging )then i flew over to the "s" and then back towards the 79 and then back to above the towers area when I noticed joe popper launching. ( finally some friends to come up and join me ) It then started getting stronger and the cloud base started to look dark and lower. then no forward penitration. I had been playing it safe anyways and was not far back but actually out in front so i did speed bar and big ears for about 20 minutes to get away from the hill. At that point I had my flying fix for the week so I continued away from the hill and landed by the road near the school and got a person who watched me land to give me a ride back. about 50 minute flight. the rest of the group not liking what they saw hiked down. joes flight was uneventful and he says fun. After 3pm it turned west ( cross ) and did not look good for the rest of the day. Im glad to hear marshall was good, it was a difficult day to judge the weather. good flying to all

Soboba, Saturday October 18, 2008 - Convergence

Up until 3pm, I wasn't sure if I should high-tail out of Soboba for Marshall or not. And buddies were getting restless. Winds had been cross from the right (West) all afternoon. Then the "what-the-hell-let's-try-anyway" attitude kicked in.
I was rewarded with a steady climb of increasing rate up to 7400', and other pilots rapidly followed. Up at altitude, no cross-wind, just a perfect straight-in at about 9 mph.

work party and then flying at soboba saturday

hellow fellow pilots

there is a group of us meeting at the soboba lz at 10am saturday to strighten up the mess that the north winds caused to our club area. we are planning to fly that afternoon maybe as early as noon. wsw at 10 predicted so it should be great. I read in the soboba web site that darell has graded a new training hill that we can try out to see if its suitable for lower air time pilots.

Soboba 9-20

I have flown Soboba for a couple of years now, and I have never seen so many PG's in the air at one time. One count said there was 42 gliders in the air at one time. There were about 60 pilots signed in. A huge success for the fly-in. Happy Birthday Darrel. What a great B'day party. Even Dusty and Rod were out on their hang gliders. Awesome day. The flying was great. I had about a 2 hour flight, as did a lot of people.

3rd Annual Soboba Fly-In

Paragliders, Hang Gliders, friends and family are invited to attend the 3rd Annual Soboba Fly-in scheduled for next Saturday 20 September 2008. We are expecting a large turnout for this fun event. A Press Enterprise reporter will be there to cover the story for the newspaper. Planned events include a barbeque and music. Everyone is invited. Get a free site checkout from any of our local flyers. No restrictions. Come anytime, the gate will be open all day. Best flying times are usually 4:00pm till dark. Fifteen minute walk up site, no drivers needed, no turnaround time, launch from 690 AGL, bench up over the mountains and fly pass sunset. We have shade and cold water both on launch and the LZ. Come early and we will even help take you gear up. Come help us enjoy all the improvements that the Soboba Flyers has made to this site over the past year.

Mothers Day

I arrived at The E launch at 12:45. I had to hurry because it was blowing down out behind launch. Worked the house thermal and the E cone to 5K. 650 fpm lift. Flew for 50 min. Had a great landing at the tree LZ. I then packed up and went to Soboba. We arrived at launch at 4:00 and I launched at 4:30 into smooth lift that took me right up over the top of the towers to 4100'msl. Good thermals at 500 fpm every 15 min.

soboba saturday

A great day at soboba today. we arrived early and tried to move our storage container. thanks to eagle wings hangliding for stepping up with three trucks to try and move container. we ended up getting a semi tow unit to move it after we couldent get it to move more then a few feet. 9 of us pg pilots hiked up to launch and parawaited until about 4pm when two pilots ( mike and joe ) launched. they rocketed skyward and radio'd back to us that it was still a little strong. the rest of us waited unil 5pm and launched and we all flew to sunset with one pilot getting 3 & 1/2 hours and the rest of us all getting more then 2 hours. the lift was everywhere and very smooth. several times we flew out over the city of san jacinto and got low and came back to the mountain and had no problem climbing back over the top everytime. we all landed at around sundown due to we wanted to land. no one landed due to a lack of lift. johannas from the kagel area who often flys marshall had his best flight ever we were told as he landed with a ear to ear smile. im told pilots will be meeting a little later tomarro at soboba at around 3:30pm. we hope you all had as much fun as we did.

soboba saturday 5-3-08

hello fellow pilots

this saturday we need some help moving a cargo container from one side of the property at soboba to the other. a few 4x4 vehicles and some chains would be helpful. we are planning on meeting at 11am and flying afterwards. predictions as of this writing are good at wsw at 11 until sunset. come on out and join us for some great flying at a great site. if you havent had a chance to fly with us our enjoy our new lz now would be a great time.

Soboba Apr 18th

Arrived at launch at 4:15 to find it blowing straight in at 7-12 mph. I cooled down from the 17 min hike with a cold beverage. I was 2nd to launch at 4:55. I went right and found a thermal and worked it to 500' over the towers in 6 min. Got to 5K and stayed there for an hour working the differant peaks in the area. Pilots were going out over Hemet and San Jacinto and not losing any altitude. J.R. got to 6850 out past the college. I made 6520' msl over the big 'S' on the mountain. Able to practice manuevers and get right back up. Move out front for hands free butter smooth air. Pulled out a cold beverage and flew hands free and really enjoyed that. Everybody had 2 hr flights.

Marshall Peak & Surounding Next Weekend

I'm bringing a goup of about 5 of us next week March 27th. We will be ready to fly starting Friday March 28th but have never been to Marshall or the surrounding areas before.

I'm hoping to find someone who would be able to help us out with some site info.

Most of us are P3 or advanced P2 pilots.

Someone emailed me a while back but I lost his number.

Thanks,
T.Lee
