Owens ValleySoaring in Owens Valley VideoMike Branger shot this video last Sunday in the Owens, John Buke and Mike only flew 30 miles so the day didn't end up being to long. (returning Monday.) So if someone wants the seat let me know ASAP and bring lotta gas $$ .......the pig only gets 22 mpg but there are 4 of us paying so far. Second, 'need a safe place to stash a couple of cars for that w/e and I don't want to leave them all alone at Andy Jackson out there in the middle of no-where. Can anyone volunteer a driveway or something that would be safer that all alone out there at AJ ? T-REX in Owens ValleyTerrain-induced Rotor Experiment, that is. http://www.eol.ucar.edu/projects/trex/ Waves are probably more germane to sailplane flying, but there's some interesting stuff on this site, and the associated rotors do dip down below 20k MSL. The studies focus on Oct-May, because that's when there's enough moisture to form wave and rotor clouds. The 'Publications' link leads to some good stuff, and 'The Rotor Flow in the Lee of Mountains' in documents is retro-cool. The pictures section is cool, and the Owens ValleyAre there any experienced OV pilots interested in a trip there this fall? I'm itching for some big air.
