Elsinore 10-5

We arrived early today at 11:15. I watched then launched at 11:45. Got up at the house thermal, slowly, but I worked it. Cloud base was at 5K. A couple of us touched the clouds, me at 5180' msl and the other guy at 5400' msl. Some sledded, some scratched , and some went to cloud base. We all had a story to tell, and cold adult beverages. Fun day.

Elsinore, 10-1

I arrived at launch around 11:45. Nice Cu Nims popping off the range from The E launch NW to Saddleback and beyond. There were haze domes over the Ranches and South towers. I launched into a 6-10 mph ENE wind at 12:15. Went left to the house thermal and was rewarded with lift. I fumbled around in it for about 15 min and got up to around 1K over launch. I pushed to the West where the center of the cloud was.

Elsinore Tues 9-30

Myself and 3 HG pilots arrived at launch at 11:45. BIG day! Clouds were popping all along the range from Corona down to Murrieta. When we got there, the clouds were just popping behind the E launch. I watched a few and then got ready. I launched at 12:20 and worked the house thermal and first bump for a few minutes and slowly made my way up to 4K msl. (Launch is at 2900 msl.) I saw the cloud over to the west of the South Towers and headed for it.

Elsinore, Sat the 27th

Holy S%*T
It appeared to be a strong, but good day. 2 PG's in the air doing alright, but getting bumped around pretty good, and 3 HG's in the air too. I launched at 12:30 only to get instantly picked straight up 60 feet or so, and pushed backwards. I went on bar and crept forward and just past the lip of launch I took a 75% collapse that spun me and dove me toward the ground. I fought back and just cleared the rocks on launch. I headed away from the hill to get picked up real strong again about 50 feet up and got hit by another huge collapse. Again spun and dove at the hill. I again fought back and just missed getting splatted. I then hit major sink, so I just ran for my LZ. I got hit again over the right hand spine. I survived that one. (at least I wasn't so close to the ground). I headed over my LZ and got hit with a major collapse for the fourth time. I landed pefectly in my LZ after a total of 10 min in the air. The adrenaline was so fierce I started dry heaving. Other wise a good day at Elsinore. 2 HG's and one PG flew to Hemet. There was another bigger story here though. Bruce Carr had something go wrong in his head, (brain), in the air. He came down and hit a palm tree 20 feet above the ground. He whomped down on the ground. Someone called 911. The police showed up first and found him trying to get his helmet off. The ambulance showed up and took him to the emergency room. A scanned showed heavy bleeding on the brain. They took him into surgery and relieved the pressure from his brain. The Dr's said there was no visable injury and they think something happened before he landed. The last I heard was that he was out of surgery and stable. The police took his glider and truck, (which was at my house). Please pray for Bruce. One other HG had to top land and twisted his ankle.
Elsinore Fri 9-26

We arrived at launch early as me and another PG caught a ride with 2 HG pilots that HAD to be on launch early. The other PG pilot is visiting from Kansas City MO. He flew today to 9K and flew over Santiago Peak and back to the beach near my house after almost 3 hours. I went 'almost' to Santiago Peak myself. Just past Los Pinos is where I turned around and headed back. I got to 8600' msl. A lot smoother than the last few days. I then went all the way to the South towers and came back to launch. I had a great landing in the LZ after 2 hours and 15 min of great flying.
Elsinore, Wed & Thurs

Big days! Real strong lift. The thermals had sharp edges. Wed. I launched at 12:30 and Thurs. I took off at 12:20. Wed the corner house themal worked good for me. I had an hour and 15 min of some serious rock and roll flying. I got up to 8613' msl. Thurs. I got to the house thermal and then sank out. I crossed over to the right side of the E bowl and worked that spine down, (figuring I was headed for the lz), until I caught one coming up the spine. I rode that to 5K msl, over the ranches. Today, it wasn't so rough. Still pretty strong. I got up to a little over 9K. Got pretty chilly up there after a while. I came down and landed after 2 hours and 30 minutes. Wind in the LZ was down,(west), at 12-17 mph. Made for an easy landing.

Elsinore 9-17-08

We arrived at launch at 11:30. Thunderheads off in the distance and haze domes over head, a good sign. I watched the conditions, saw some birds in the corner house thermal and launched at 12:05. Good thermals. Light to medium bumpy. Clouds started to pop over the ranches and south towers. I just started looking up and flying the clouds. This took me to 7960' msl. Cloud base was at 8K. Got real bumpy up there.

Elsinore Mon 9-15-08

OMG! is what comes out of my mouth. Quadruple record breaker. #1) Max altitude; 14,080' msl. #2) Distance 32 miles.
#3) ground speed;
59 mph on a paraglider.
#4) Max verticle speed; 1584 fpm, UP.
One thermal took me up that high. 25 min into the flight I was at 10K.
'Chuck the cop' launched first on his hang at 1:00 pm. I launched 10 min later at 1:10. 3 turns at the house thermal and then over to Edwards north face,(as there was some north wind). I was rewarded like I have NEVER been rewarded. One thermal from 3800' msl to 14,080' msl. The easiest thermal I have ever been in. Fat, soft edges, and FAT. Me and Chuck were shouting altitudes to each other and he left for the beach at a measly 12.3K. Of course he was on a hang so he arrived over the beach at 4K. He landed south of Doheny Beach about a half mile. I landed on the golf course next to Salt Creek Beach, in Laguna Nigel. The long way to the beach. San Clemente would have been only 22 mile. I lost the 74 hiway right away and went for fastest ground speed. I got 58.9 mph on a paraglider. Long time over 50 mph. Second time trying the beach and got off course. Oh well.
