Elsinore

Elsinore Fri May 2nd

I arrived at the Edwards launch at 1:00 pm. Found it blowing straight in at 10-15 mph. I launched at 1:30 into nice lift along the face of the ridge. I worked this for about 20 min and then the shear came thru. OMG, 1000 fpm up a few times. Big fat lift but the edges were sharp and bumpy. Got real bumpy at the top of the thermals. I got to 7K in 30 min and didn't get below that till time to land. Got to 9300' msl. Took pics of a formation of planes going to the San Diego airshow. One hang pilot flew east past the 215 freeway. I landed at the Oak Tree LZ after 1 hr and 40 min. Blowing down in the LZ at 8 mph. Easy landing.

A little windy and rowdy yesterday, but still fun!

Elsinore Apr 25

I arrived at launch at 12:30 to find a hang pilot in the air going up fast. I got ready and 2 more hangs launched. (one sledded). I had to work hard the first 20 min then, boing. Right up to 7K. I topped out just under 8K. The others got 8500' msl. Bumpy ride today. One hang went east of the 215 freeway and the other flew FOUR hours. One PG flew for a couple of hours and top landed the Edwards launch. Hard to get down. I went to the 15 freeway and back and north past Los Pinos and hung out over the lake for a while. Every time I got near the LZ I went up to 7K. I finally found some 1100 fpm sink back in Edwards bowl and cored that to get down. I got 3 hours but E-Team Jack got 4 hours on his hang. Good job Jack. A great day at Elsinore!

Big O Flies from the E

Owen had a good flight at Elsinore last week, the day that Dave and I put fingernail marks in our control bars.

Fortunately, the cameras I strapped to his Talon didn't jinx him and made for some good video. I'm looking forward to getting his T2C next.

Elsinore Apr 13 (Fickled) Great for some Sucked for others.

Arrived at Edwards at 11:45. The word was the E was blown out.
We began setting up at Edwards and shortly it became apparent it was going to be an E Day. Several pilots bypassed Edwards going directly to the E. About 12:30 we noticed Mitch climbing up over the E. Soaring conditions at Edwards were continuing to slacken. Paragliders were struggling to stay up when RC Dave launched. He turned right and and eventually found lift. Wind kept changing directions making it difficult to decide which direction to turn.

Got a ride to launch with D by D. We arrived at 2:30. Blowing straight in at 8-14. I launched at 3:05 and went up to 4K pretty quick. Worked around the area and got to 5K. A couple of times little convergences went off and I got to 6K. Stayed between 4.5K and 5.5K for over 2 hours. Finally landed at the Tree at 5:35. There were 5 hangs and 5 PG's for the day. It was soarable all day. One PG stayed up until a little after dark. A great day at Elsinore.

I arrived at the Edwards launch at 12:20 to find it blowing straight in from the NNE at 8-12 mph. I launched at 12:45 into sink. I turned right and hit a few of the few early thermals all the way to the LZ in 20 min. I watched as another PG launched and maintained and then got up. I saw a second PG and a hang coming from a Rad launch. I drove back up and it had turned pretty east so I went to the E launch. I launched there at 1:45 and flew 20 min of light thermalss all the way to a new lz right by my new house. Very cool. A young lady saw this and offered a ride back up to launch. Very cool. I drove down and stopped a the LZ and found a driver and it was still blowing in at Edwards at 2:45. I launched Edwards at 3:00 and got right up at the North face as it was turning NNW. I caught what seemed like a convergence. I couldn't see it, but the LIFT was there. Wow. To 6K msl. I stayed there till I got tire of flying alone and landed at the tree LZ at 5:05. Hard to get down. I had to use tight spirals and wing overs and assymetric spirals and a horse shoe to get down. Great landing right at the tree.

Myself and a hang pilot arrived at the E at 12:30. The back flag was blowing down pretty good, but it was still blowing in on launch. I hurried and got ready and launched at 12:40. Birds everywhere. Got right up at the corner house thermal. I went to 5500' msl in just a few minutes. It blew down around 1:00, and the hang got stuck on launch. The convergence came through and I got over 7K. I went over to the north shearline and followed it over to the 15 freeway.
