Is Friday THE DAY??!

I really hope the soaring predictor is good for Friday. I could really use some juicy air to break the long famine since July. The shoulder feels a lot better than it has in a long time, and I am willing to risk a couple hours of vacation time. Any opinions? Any takers? Step up, one and all! Is it gonna be good? If nothing else, spread the bull@#%t thick. Consider the fate of the poor deprived (depraved?) pilot, and extend some mercy from the lift gods.

Flyday this friday ???

Is anyone thinking 'bout having a go at Crestline tomorrow - Friday ?

Call me.

CSS annual XC contest

I am resurrecting Len's annual xc contest by offering up a 100 buck prize for the longest HG flight originating from marshall/crestline. Contest begins today and ends December 1st this year. Entrants submit gps track via this site as file attachments and distances calc'd by seeyou flight software. I'll qualify that my hundred bucks is for flexy flights either straight line or out and return. If someone wants to toss in a cash prize in for another class then thats even better!!!! PG, Kingpost, Single surf, H3, whatever.

Crestline, 1-30-10

Still a couple of inches of snow at Crestline setup area. Chilly, light SW breeze, some high clouds moving in. Good launch of the UltraSport 166 at 14:00. Went left and came back at launch height, so went to Billboard. Got under a gaggle and climbed through to cloudbase, 6700 MSL, in a couple of minutes. Pine was soarable but no great shakes. Flew from Crestline to Marshalll and then a little east and ended up down by the 750 at the 50 minute mark, wanting to get a solid hour, at least. Scratched a little core over the bluffs and was then right above a PG. We circled together in it and then another core, slowly slowly working to above the 750. The core left or moved and I worked very hard in another up to the East bowl by Cloud Peak. Flew over Marshal again then out to the LZ to land. NW cycle when I was 250 AGL, but I boated in the micro-core enough for the wind to turn SW and went in for a 3-stepper about 10 feet West of the HG cone at 15:15.

Fusions for Sale

Couple of low hour Fusion 150's on the OZ Report classifieds for sale in the Ventura Area. Prices are negotiable. I flew one for several years. Plenty of performance, little heavy, landings are a little tougher than the current wings, but they don't have the scary extended glide the Talons and T2's have when landing. Good X/C glider for someone just getting started.

Cold Comfort in a Winter Wonderland

Set up the Falcon on a snow covered Crestline. Owen and Rebar Dan set up the topless blades as well. Was worried initially about post-holing my way down a snowy launch ramp. But amazing, the only place not completely covered with snow was the actual running path at launch! Groovy baby, yeah!
Had 38 glorious minutes of flying over the white stuff. Had the GoPro on launch... which promptly died just before take off. Hmmm... have to just keep this flight in my old memory bank instead.

Weather Station Situation

So, the Simba weather station went off line a couple of Sundays ago and a simple reboot didn't get it back online. On inspection I found that the weather equipment was fine and that the mini computer between it and the internet wasn't connecting to the LAN via ethernet. The only way to communicate with the device is via the LAN, so I had to send it in for service. This is the machine we repaired this summer by replacing the motherboard, keeping the RAM and the Flash memory with the OS and programs already on them, to the tune of $300. I expect the manufacturer to cover the failure under warranty.

1205 Slice-n-Dice

Nice! Slice and Dice day back at Crestline. 50 yard wide chunks of cloud forming based at 4k then drifting back to the ridge where the LS5 Machete was waiting. 'Circumnavigated' clouds for about 45 minutes then retreated to the front for some nice climbs till shading bated the lift. An early christmas gift indeed!
