CrestlineFlying Tues - Aug 31?Anyone heading out tomorrow? - Alan A Tale of Two Lakes - The Exciting Video Expereincehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUqlgIxYOwk During yesterday's XC fun and adventure I had two lake encounters. The first was crossing Silverwood somewhat low. It was followed by a 6600' climb to 11-something by the power station. After a 12-mile glide up Hwy 15 I found myself setting up a landing approach on the golf course fairway South of Spring Valley Lake. Spring Valley Lake, 12 Minutes Later - 8/25/2010WednesdayWho is planning to fly tomorrow (Wednesday)? In current forecast day is looks like to be epic. Crestline to Keller - Narratedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FWsA7bJw5U I have been promising myself and maybe a few others that I'd produce a narrated video of the route to Keller Peak. Here is my flight from Saturday, 8/21/2010, as I fly downrange to Santa's Village with only a few thermal stops along the way. I make the crossing to Smiley Park from 6,900' and expect to find more thermals in the usual spots, beginning with the 330 switchbacks at the South end of Smiley Park but they aren't happening. Lo and behold, there's Gene Embree steeply banking his Fusion in front of launch! I did a quick screenshot, since those images aren't archived at all. Looks like it was pretty good.

We had the typical summer mid day conditions with a hint of Fall due to the (hey was it blue) skys:) Gene Embree on the PTZ CamWhat A Fun Tuesday Afternoon At Crestline! - Videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJLlzTdmptg Watch in HD with your stereo cranked up and see why. I covered a lot of terrain in just over 2 hours while wringing out my old Dacron T2 144 and getting some physical therapy following Sunday's pound-in at Pine Mtn (Rod you should have seen it! LOL). Lots of nice sites, scenery and activity for a lazy afternoon Crestline flight. See if you can spot all the following: Anemometer ReplacedThe replacement anemometer has been reporting non-zero winds speeds for a couple of days now, so I guess we can start relying on the data again. The old anemometer will be sent in for counseling and possibly to a reeducation camp to instill that 24/7 work ethic. I put a weatherproof junction box on the tower, so now we can just go with the stock (cheaper) 40-foot cable length when next we need to order a replacement anemo/vane. They seem to last about two years up at Crestline. Crestline | 2010 | Weather | Website | Read More... | Ken Howells's blog | login or register to post comments
