Paraglider and Hang Gliders Flying at Crestline

Stepping Down

CSS Members,

I am stepping down as President of the Crestline Soaring Society.  New circumstances at work have made it impossible for me to give this job the attention that it deserves. You are in very capable hands with the other board members who will continue to ensure we have a safe and fun place to fly and keep our airpark, as my good friend Randy likes to say, the friendliest LZ on earth.

Internet WX Forecasting Class

Next Saturday, Mar 5 at the shade structure 9am. I will bring a large screen TV and computer to conduct a weather forecasting class.  Want to know a week ahead of time when the big days are coming? Like the old adage says, "90% of the game is just showing up". Knowing when to show up is 10x more valuable. Spot the good days, the great days, the best day of the year and the 'too good' days of late summer.  Free, like a great soaring day, to whomever shows up!

At the request of and in cooperation with the Pala Roberts Ranch:
All Palomar Launches and LZs will be closed all Day Monday February 22nd 2016.
There will be intensive Helicopter Spraying activities at the Pala Roberts Ranch and surrounding Orchards between Launch and the LZ Using the Main LZ as an LZ.…/palomar-tfr-monday-2-22-16

Storage Bins

CSS Members,

I regret that I have to inform you that someone has broken into our storage bins. Property was removed from the bins and left around the parking lot and the LZ grass.  It appears the vandals were interrupted in the middle of their mischief and left in a hurry because they also abandoned the bolt cutters that were used to break into the bins.  It does not look like any gliders were taken but that will have to be confirmed by our members. Thank you to Jeff Bohler for calling the police, filling out a police report and helping them with their initial investigation.

Another CSS RRG Fundraising Challenge to Members!

Hey Gang,

We received another request from a club member today to help in the USHPA drive to raise funds to establish an RRG for insurance purposes. As you know, this is absolutely necessary in keeping many of our flying sites open, due to the requirements of the land owners.

Our member would like to remain "ANONYMOUS", but would be willing to donate up to $1,000 (TOTAL) in matched funds, from other CSS members.

Starting from today.

Meet & Greet with Martin Palmaz - Jan 16

Martin Palmaz (USHPA Executive Director) will be stopping by from 11:30 - 1:00 on the 16th. He would like to talk with us, answer any questions, and get our feedback regarding USHPA & Insurance issues.

Yes, this is a big deal. If we do not reach the, Free Flight Forever self insurance fund raising goals and maintain insurance coverage, we will likely lose our ability to fly many of our Southern California sites.
