The structure was relocated from the temporary LZ we had use of after the original Pinecrest Airpark was closed for the construction of the Devil Canyon Power Plant Second Afterbay, about 1 mile west of the current airpark site

Airpark Lease Negotiation Letters, 1993-94

This is in reply to your letter of October 21, 1993, to David N. Kennedy regarding rental
fees and lease terms for use of the newly developed hang-glider landing site situated in
the city of San Bernardino. I apologize for the delay in responding.

This hang-gliding landing site was constructed by the Department of Water Resources on property being purchased from the county of San Bernardino. As your letter indicated, the Department made a commitment to provide a new hang-gliding site due to the displacement
Announcement: Closure of Temporary LZ, Building of Airpark LZ, Sep. 1992

6 August 1992

Hang Gliding Magazine
6950 Aragon Circle, Suite 6
Buena Park, CA 90620

Dear Gil,

Please include this notice in the September issue of the magazine:

Crestline LZ Closing September 8.
The Crestline Soaring Society is getting a new Landing Zone located 1.25 miles East of the current LZ. The old site is being excavated as part of the Devil Canyon power plant project, and some of the dirt is going to be used to build up the new LZ. This means that there will be no official LZ for a projected period of two to three months. Due to the large amount of equipment and construction activity in the area between these two sites there can be no landings in the immediate vicinity during this period. We have support from the State DWR but our relationship with the County of San Bernardino is tenuous at best. If we can avoid any conflicts arising from landings interfering with construction it would be better for all concerned. Anyone flying from Crestline while the LZ is under construction should have cross-country landing skills and/or be able to top-land at Marshall Peak. Please be aware that there is a San Bernardino City Ordinance against landing Hang Gliders within the City limits. There will be a map detailing the restricted areas posted at the launch site.
