Crestline Soaring Society

Our annual end-of-summer bash to celebrate the memory of Andy Jackson, who moved his family to an unimproved dirt lot in the 1970s to ensure that pilots had a legal place to land when flying from Crestline. The existence of Pinecrest Airpark led directly to our ability to negotiate with the State of California to secure the current AJ Airpark when their expansion of the Devil Canyon hydroelectric plant shut Pinecrest down. We lost Andy to cancer in 1985.

Garage/Vintage gliders, get them out and in some fresh air Saturday Aug. 14. at Andy Jackson Airpark. This is an opportunity to drag those vintage gliders out and set them free again!

Even if your garage glider isn't ancient, maybe it's that former hot ship or intermediate replaced by your latest supership - drag her out and get reacquainted. That is, fly 'em if they're still airworthy, otherwise bring them out anyway and set 'em up for everyone to check out and see just how bold the old pilots really were.

The USHPA has switched their filming on Tuesday (tomorrow) to Sylmar. They plan to be at AJ/Crestline on Wednesday late day to catch the Wednesday after work crowd, and Thursday starting between noon and 1:00pm.

They have not received very many confirmed volunteers and called me to ask that I put out another call to have volunteers show up on Thursday. If you can, please make yourself available and show up. If you have never been on scene during the filming of a movie or TV show, just watching the filming process is interesting.

The July event for the Northern California Cross Country League will be held at Dunlap on 24th and 25th July. Please meet at the Community center in Dunlap at 9.30am on Saturday morning ready to go up the hill.

The league is open to all pilots- hang glider and paraglider pilots are all welcome to attend. It is designed to train pilots in cross country flying by flying fixed routes with more abled pilots (aka Joshneric). There is a mentoring program to assist the more junior pilots.

We’re going to have shirts in honor of the visionary who started this all in motion: Andy Jackson.

All shirts are blue, with dark blue ink.

This isnt a formal fly-in but rather a byob block party type potluck deal. I'll have gas grills going for anyone to use and will be flipping some cheeseburgers for those who dont bring chow.

For those who have not heard, we lost a good friend and pilot this past weekend. She died in her home. The family is grieving her loss. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for her spouse Mark. We are here for you Mark if there is anything at all we can do. This is not the forum for details other than the location of her service. She was loved by so many.

I am so excited about our June 5th Celebration and Aerobatics Competition.

I hope you have all made plans to come out for the afternoon and early evening.

How many USHPA clubs can boast TWO consecutive Presidential Citation Award Winners! Please come out and honor Owen for this wonderful achievement.

And, our little Hang Glider Aerobatics Competition has turned into a really big event. Even the local newspaper will be there to cover it!

We are holding an Andy Jackson Airpark Logo Contest.
Now that the Ranch is getting developed and we are working more actively on promoting our site we need to do some branding.
All that is required is that the logo say "Andy Jackson Airpark".
You can add anything else you think would be good to have on it.
Please consider that it will be printed on fabric, paper, stickers, etc. and probably should be a limited number of colors.

The Soboba Soaring Board of Directors held their quarterly meeting on 10 April. It was determined that our “Grand Opening” and dedication of the Soboba Flight Park will be held on Saturday 22 May 2010. Gates will be open on or before 10 am. A reporter from the Press Enterprise will be on hand to help record this historical event. It is expected that well over 100 people will attend this event. You are encouraged to bring your family and friends. Overnight camping will be available to those that wish to stay overnight.

On July 10th we will have our Annual CSS Fly In with contests, prizes, raffles, and dinner.

On June 5th there will be a barbeque to celebrate our own Owen Morse, the latest USHPA Presidential Citation recipient. Also on that day we will be sponsoring the First CSS/SoCal Regional Hang Glider Aerobatics Competition.
Two of our CSS members, Dave Aldrich and Rod Clark, have been training to be official HG aerobatics judges.

The CSS Spring 2010 General Meeting will be at the landing zone as the flying day ends, 24 April, 2010.

I saw this announcement in our local newspaper today. I wish I could attend (but can't). I have read two of her books about early hang gliding and the story of Wills Wing. I think this would be a very interesting talk.

Wills to speak at TAHS

The Tustin Area Historical Society (TAHS) will welcome local author Maralys Wills as its guest speaker on February 16.

I hearby challenge everyone at every local site to compete with your friends to see who can have the shortest flight on the shortest day of the year. Winner receives a small (or short) prize to be determined by local crowd. and the losers? well...
HAPPY SOLSTICE!

We had a great turnout for the CSS Toy Drive 2009! It was windy from the north, but warm. Seemed like about 20 pilots came to hang out, eat pizza and drop off toys to add to the club-purchased pile. The Suburban was full of goodies for the tots. The local firefighters came out to have some pizza and socialize and then we delivered all the toys to the fire station.
