I'm ready to go. If you like

I'm ready to go. If you like comfortable sleeping and a shower at the end of the day I have room for 2 more pilots. I have a 30' bounder. If we split the gas and camping 3 ways it should only cost about 100 each for the week.

My two spots are spoken for.

Are you sure that road to

Are you sure that road to Horseshoe meadow will be opened? Did you call rangers? We typically go on Memorial day weekend and this year will be no exception if weather cooperates.
Check out video from last year: http://vimeo.com/12222437

Alex, Great Video....

The road to Walt's & Cottonwood should be open by Memorial week end. Although they have more snow fall than previous years, which is good for us in S.cal, Cal Trans & CHP is expected to have it open. That is a big week end for tourism in the area.

We will be checking those conditions in the coming weeks also. My wife was the Captain for CHP in Bishop, which had jurisdiction over that area heading south to Ridgecrest. We still have a few friends, contacts there. Continue to make your plans for that weekend.

It would be great to hear how it goes for your group on that week end. Please post on the forum.

BIG DISCLAIMER: ALL BASED THAT WE DON'T GET A MAJOR BLIZZARD THE WEEK BEFORE!!!!

Fly safe,
Jeff

Horseshoe Meadows Road

This is the USDA Forestry Service web site for the Inyo National Forrest and the Mt Whitney Ranger Station and Horseshoe Meadows Campground Road ( to Walt's Pt. ) I spoke with them Friday and they think the road will be open in late May as usual but the ranger said to watch the weather and call the 23rd or 24th to check on conditions for Memorial Day w/e. The Phone number in the lower LH corner of their web page = 760-873-2400

Just an update on the Owens trip...

Thanks Jonathan, cool video! It clearly shows a clear road, & launch to Walt's Point. The group seems to be getting a little bit bigger.
So far, we have several drivers available to shuttle cars back to Lone Pine Airport. We also have one, maybe two, to run chase, for those that wish?
There are a number of us that are Bi- Wingle, & plan on flying both, if possible. We plan to hit Black Mt., & , or Flynn's in Bishop, if conditions allow.

I've flown Flynn's ( Bishop),in my Paraglider a number of times. It's a great thermal site, & nice glass off can occur , later in the day, also.

Paute, is just down the valley, to the NE ,a bit.

The way it goes up there, you have to be a little bit flexible.
I also was in contact with Karie Kastle, & she can provide guide service for those that choose. She does charge for that, & you can address that on your own.

Yip pi Kai Ooh, Lets Dance, in the Owens!!!

Drivers for the Owens trip!

This is just a little update for the Owens trip.
June 16 Thursday, through June 22 Wednesday, Plus or minus a day for some!

Drivers: Greg Carey, Smokin Joe & Igor have said they would drive & do retrieval, for those that need their services. You can work out the details, & compensation with them directly. Igor is not going to fly, but would like to come & see what the flying is all about up there. Contact info for them:

Greg Carey: 909-648-6054
Igor: E-mail

My wife Pat will be shuttling myself, 3 pilots, & herself to Walts on Saturday, the 17th., in my truck. We have those slots filled, as of now. She has stated, she will chase anybody's dome ass, (GPS trained), for the right price$$$ I've already given her the blank check, told her to just fill in the number of $$$000000's ???

Smokin Joe, Greg C. & Every Day Mike will be heading up on June 15 or 16th.

Pat & I won't be in Lone Pine till Friday the 17th. We'll be traveling down from N. ca.

Mark Hoffmann, Kevin Williams & Tom Swanson plan on arriving in Lone Pine on Friday, the 17th. & fly Walt's, Saturday.

There is about 5-6 other pilots that are still working on a possible/tentative plan to come as well.

As I stated previously, Kari Castle is for hire, with full guide service, if you wish. Her web address is on one of these posts.

We will also try to fly Flynn's in Bishop, while we're up there, if possible?

There are plenty of things to do up in the Owens Valley, for those who want to bring a non-flier.
Hiking, biking, rock climbing, fishing, water tubing on the Owens river, hot springs, target practice, Schotts Bakery in Bishop, again, Schotts Bakery in Bishop & just enjoying the views. Note to self, don't forget camera.

That reminds me, I need to ask Greg & Joe, what time will they be cooking all the fish they catch. We'll bring the adult beverages??

Drivers for Owens trip

I'm an HG pilot from Sylmar planning to go up that Thursday for at least the weekend. Any chance of getting on a ride for launch and retrieves?
