Haim Amir - We will all miss you

I just read this morning that our dear friend and fellow pilot, Haim Amir died from a crash of his Doodlebug powered harness on Saturday. http://www.hanggliding.org/viewtopic.php?t=15765

Haim was a really pleasant and upbeat pilot who I always looked forward to seeing in the McBus and watching him float around his Sport 2 135 with his 110# bare weight.

My sympathies go out to Haim's family and friends. If anyone has any stories they'd like to share please post them here.

Nooooo

Terrible news. I flew with Haim recently.

Nice guy

I will miss Haim. :(

thoughts and prayers to his family.

A Real Loss

I was always glad to see Haim and we always exchanged a few words. Calm, cool, and collected, he was a quiet presence with a ready laugh. He deliberated long and hard before moving from the Falcon to the Sport 2, asked a lot of cogent questions. His flying skills and decision making were solid. It sounds like an equipment problem was the cause.

My condolences to Haim's family and friends.

So Sorry To Hear About Haim

It was always great to see Haim in the LZ with his gentle personality and mild manners. I remember that 5 hour flight he had last summer.

So sorry we have lost him.

first things I thought this morning after reading the post was how his sons will now have to tell this story a thousand times over the rest of their lives and how alike he was to another similarly unfortunate pilot named charlie chau both in physical stature and mild demeanor and how terribly unfair this sport is in dealing out its consequence.

So sad

He learned to fly just shortly after I did. I felt a kinship with him and pilots like Alan, Chris Van Velden, and Steve Gaiser because we all learned together. We were in the same "freshmen class."

He was a wonderful guy. I adored his kids.

I'm so sad.

Damm It.....

Soo Very very sad.

very sad

Very sad news. Haim was a great guy. I always enjoyed talking with him. Last summer I wired him off of Crestline a few times and was there when he landed after his 5 hour flight. He will be remembered and missed.

You will be missed Haim

You were a reason for what I do. -Peter S

Thank you for being our freind Haim

Haim you will be missed by all who knew you. You always were excited to talk about your flights with me in the LZ. You were an excellent pilot. You often were the last one to land. Rest in peace my friend.

so very sad

Haim, it was my pleasure to have known you and to have flown with you. You will be greatly missed by me and many many others. Always a pleasure to see and talk to. Always a smile. I know that "fair" isn't a part of the equation every time I soar off the mountain, I (we) do what we do because we love it so much, I know that Haim loved to fly, I know that I will miss him, and I know that I still agree with Dan, so unfair.

I dont know where our spirits go from here Haim, but if your ever up on the mountain and you see me getting ready to fly, feel free to catch a ride brother.

This is a sad day

Haim was a great guy to know, fly with and talk to. He will be missed....

Hey folks,

I found you guys doing a web search trying to find out what happened to Haim.
My wife is a long time friend of Dorette (his ex), and we've known the boys since they were squirts.
I understand Haim's mom wants her son back in Israel for burial, and it's required by religious law that he be interred in 3 days, so no window for anyone to pay respects, probably, in that sense.
If, however you'll dig thru your photos and videos and post them here, I'll direct Ameet and his brother to come here and see them, if my wife hasn't already.
I assume they'll be overseas for the rest of the week, but maybe when they get back they can check it out.
Saw Ameet for the first time in years in the pic posted above. Gawd did that make me feel old! They were always so tiny, now he looks like some specwar type!
I passed along your condolences to my wife to send on thru Facebook.

Home of Peace Memorial Park

Haim's memorial will be held at the oldest Jewish cemetery in Los Angeles. http://www.homeofpeacememorialpark.com/ My wife's grandmother was buried there and two of the Stooges are there as well as Fanny Bryce, Louie Mayer and a host of other renowned Jews from the entertainment industry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_of_Peace_Cemetery

In spite of being located in "East L.A." it's actually in a decent, working class neighborhood. I plan on attending and if others are interested in making the trek out, and want to see where Curly and Schemp are laid to rest then come on out and show your support for Haim's family and for his memory. You don't even need to bring your own yarmulke!

I will miss you

I still cannot apprehend not seeing you Haim being with us, not talking to you at the LZ. But you will be in my thoughts. Be in peace, my friend.
