Crestline, 1-30-10Still a couple of inches of snow at Crestline setup area. Chilly, light SW breeze, some high clouds moving in. Good launch of the UltraSport 166 at 14:00. Went left and came back at launch height, so went to Billboard. Got under a gaggle and climbed through to cloudbase, 6700 MSL, in a couple of minutes. Pine was soarable but no great shakes. Flew from Crestline to Marshalll and then a little east and ended up down by the 750 at the 50 minute mark, wanting to get a solid hour, at least. Scratched a little core over the bluffs and was then right above a PG. We circled together in it and then another core, slowly slowly working to above the 750. The core left or moved and I worked very hard in another up to the East bowl by Cloud Peak. Flew over Marshal again then out to the LZ to land. NW cycle when I was 250 AGL, but I boated in the micro-core enough for the wind to turn SW and went in for a 3-stepper about 10 feet West of the HG cone at 15:15. Fun flight, lots of happy pilots. I found lots of 300-500 FPM lift while up at Crestline and Pine. Down below Marshall it was 20-200 FPM for the most part, though that one next to Cloud did hit 500 FPM for a few half-turns. Forums > Pilot Reports Flight > HG Sites > Crestline No jacket needed. WindNo jacket needed. Wind decided to blow down slope today. :( I guess I used up all the good SW wind yesterday. Should Turn UpslopeShould turn upslope in the afternoon. Maybe just at the 750... |

A great day all around
Ken,
I had a pretty nice day too at the 90 at AJX, I was able to get 9 flights off the 90 and one yesterday to satisfy my demo bunnies after my trips to Dockweilers in November. It was such a good day, really, I was dubious a few times about the wind holding up, but it did and I was stoked.
I have been cleared to pick up where I left off on my solos, tomorrow, weather permitting, I will be flying off of Marshal for solo 6. I'm pretty jazzed about it.
I sure enjoyed myself after too, still plenty familiar pilots to visit with, seems like everyone who went up today had nice long flights.
Maybe see you tomorrow?
-Dennis
