Got all ready for chilly and damp but it was warm and dry. We did some early sledders with Falcon 3s from the 750 during the 9-Noon-thirty period. Would have been quicker if there was an east-facing launch at the 750, but there were lulls enough that there were no long launch waits. The main clump of high cloud layer burned away and another formed farther west. On my 11:15 F3 195 flight I was getting puffs over the BigO launches (and was quite close to them).

Flew a T2 154 from Regionals around 13:00 with a nice breeze and easy climbs to 4700 in 300 up with 600 FPM peaks. Very comfortable with short sleeves and without gloves. Some of the thermals had definite edges.

There were a handful of HGs and PGs out taking advantage of the conditions.

Finished the day with a Sport 2 175 from Regionals at 14:30. Still breezy and plenty soarable to the same ceiling. Rec pilots filtered down and joined the babblers who had already flown.

I had six flights, won one spot and tied another. I did get a little scratch on my arm from a falling downtube while folding up a T2, so the day wasn't perfect.

fine day

a fine january day! easy soaring, warm temps. winds 15 on the crestline ridge. Dustys raptor falcon preying upon the swarm of rc gliders actually taking one out when it lit on the topsurf and couldnt fly off. I tried a bit to strafe and wake him but hes too nimble on that thing. Shadowed Lee and his falcon for a while. nice flyin Lee. Kyle flew the corbinator's LS4 and managed a save from the 750 and tagged Redrockwall. go Kyle! Landing winds due south and light I setup a slow approach to avoid a too long final and ended up surprisingly short. oh well. later saw a litespeed come in hot and bound to overshoot. pilot tried to drag feet to slow down and a medium whack took out a DT AND carbon basebar. Double deep wallet whammy! no damage to pilot. according to sungraph we have gained 1 minute on the Jan 8 latest sunrise and 22 minutes on the earliest sunset Dec 4.

Sled Head

The forecast for Crestline looked to me like lots of ridge soaring from Pine Flats to the HS. Was this not the case? I stayed local in case I got to add another downhill battle to my ever-growing list of extended sled rides.
