Inexpensive sailplane kit

There seemed to be some excitement about the BUG that Gene flew recently. Here is a link to an inexpensive glider kit for $2995 that looks pretty interesting. I'm thinking about purchasing the kit. Any thoughts?

Buy

Buy me one too. I'll take one of each.

Hart Aero

Many people have tried to order and recieve this glider.
It never arrives.
He has great pictures.
Has told us many times he will deliver them on this date.
He always cancels. ALWAYS.
Locals here in Arizona had to force him to repay the deposit.
Ask around. I do not think anyone in a few years has ever recieved one.
I would love to have one.
Mark

Don't Go There

I looked at these a while back, and bounced the idea off a sailplane pilot I work with. According to him, other people have tried to buy from Hart Aero, place an order with a substantial deposit, and all they ever recieve is headaches and obfuscation. He'll probably end up lynched before long. According to one source, one of the photos on his website is an ORIGINAL Super Floater (not even built by him). All I'm saying is be Very Careful. Nuff Said. Joel

Speaking of BUGs...

I am working on getting a roll of polyester peel ply that may get discarded from my work, being unsuitable for our methods. However, there is nothing wrong with it and would probably make a great covering material for the BUG. I will test it today to see if I can get it to heat shrink. Will post when I know more. Joel

Joel, please save me a piece

Joel, please save me a piece of that peel ply to play with, even if it doesn't heat shrink.

Folks have been making sailboat sails using Tyvek house wrap vapor barrier, I used it to cover a Zagi-type glider. It doesn't heat shrink until you get within about a degree of it's melting point, but by making a simple fixture to hold it tight I got a decent cover out of it.

How would I find out the necessary tensile strength of covering for an aircraft of this type? I'd like to make a simple frame to form it into a box that I could pressurize with air or water to find out if it could be used. I saw it in Home Depot I think it was only $150 for a roll 9'x150'. Seems like a combination of Tyvek and strapping tape would be plenty strong, and so cheap you could re-cover every winter, so UV wouldn't be a problem.

Just gotta figger out how to tie-dye it.

Hang Gliding is inherently fun

Dammit All To Hell

Turns out they are not getting rid of the roll of peel ply I mentioned in the earlier post. My apologies for getting up hope under false pretenses. Now it's back to the search for reasonably priced covering. I am still willing to help with covering and mechanical repair to get a chance to fly the BUG. Joel
