After Work Fun 6/17/2009Lots of HG’s enjoyed flying the Crestline Ridge during the mid-week-after-work-get-together. Around 6:00 a gaggle of some 8 gliders joined beautifully along the spine up to Billboad thermalling counter clockwise for several minutes. It was there I developed the best strategy for staying in lift I have ever found. Just follow Tom. It worked perfectly until he peeled off down the ridge. Then I followed Mike B. There were several sweet landings in the gentle sea breeze followed by a tasty buffet. Great turn out. Thanks Kenny and Dave for driving so many of us up to launch. Mike Z Forums > Pilot Reports Counter clockwiseYea, from 5:30 to 6:00, I was picking weeds 500 feet below launch, everyone boating around in the lift band above, and I finally get a thermal, tighter than Jack Benny's wallet, up the spine at Billboard. I'm crankin' it and crankin' it, wait for it... clockwise. Look up, all these beautiful wings... counter-clockwise. Fortunately, it still worked that way, got up, and had some fun. Also, this very flamboyant Moyes wing goes shooting underneath me, right as I make the switch to counter. Before I can say "that's a FABULOUS wing," I look up and it's shooting back over me. Nice wing, Dan, that thing really zooms. Thanks for the hors' Devores, ladies. BUZZZZZZ!Wednesday night was Great! You all can really soar. This fledgeling had his best 1:36 minute flight ever. Watching you all in the air is one thing but BEE-ing in the swarm above launch is another. Way Cool! Rebardan was zooming over a spine and flying like Rocky squirrel. I wanna do it again! |
