Odd little day with several unlucky pilots launching from Marshall before 2:00 and getting gypped. Benefiting from “The Luck of the Launch” I ran off the hill into a “cycle” shortly after 2:00 and immediately “soared” to 20 ft. over launch, my vario beeping at a deafening 200 fpm. It was now semi buoyant with little workable thermals and I spent an hour never dropping below 3800 or getting above 4200. Mike B showed me where it was happening in front of Marshall and over the wind sock at Cloud.
Later I followed RC Dave toward the freeway and passed into a broad slow moving thermal that took me to 5000. Made a play for Billboard but couldn’t eke it out.
Landed after 2 hours and by then it was buoyant enough I actually had to dive down a little through the lift, although it didn’t require a lot of effort. It sprinkled for a few seconds on launch and I saw about 30 seconds of rain during the flight.
Rebar Dan, Kyle and Kenny Westfall had nice flights from Crestline.

Nice!

Mike,
Thanks for the report. I'm glad you had a good flight. I thought about coming to play but wasn't feeling quite right so I went for a bike ride instead, part of which was in the rain. At least I talked about hang gliding at the coffee shop.
Cheers,
Jonathan

Saturday @ Crestline

Smoooooth!!! ridge soaring East to Rim High, and great to the West as well, rained on several times....over 2 hours.....topped out at 6400. Makes up for last weekend when we had to watch all the fun at Marshall while it blew down at Crestline. I'm convinced now that Kile has hollow bones, and feathers under his arm pits!

Never got above 13 inches Saturday

I got in 32 miles of ground skimming late afternoon though evening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGeupggfMpI
