Saturday September 27Lift was abundant from noon. I flew from noon to 1pm, then top-landed to go have lunch. For me the day was about using a new vario (Flytec 6030): Conditions seemed good until 2:30 pm or so, and then it got windy from the west and with less lift. Conditions started improving around 4:15, but the lift wasn't like earlier. One could only get about 1200' over Marshall from that point on. I managed to glide backto Crestline, the Pine (found nothing there) and glide back to the LZ: Some PG visitors from Arizona, clad with leg protection. Forums > Pilot Reports Flight > PG Sites > Marshall niceIt was a nice day. I flew 3 laps today (Crestline - Pine - Marshall - Crestline.) It took about an hour for the last lap as it was pretty tough to get back to Crestline. After flying laps I got to thermal with Rob on the tandem and Owen a little later after he came back from Big Bear. 2 hour 30 minute flight no track log, batteries died -Dave LapsSince I am older and wiser than Dave I only did 2 laps but they were very very nice ......not hard to find lift most everywhere from 1:30- 3:30. There were a good 8-10 hgs and 10+ pgs. I left my chute w/ Bob to have it repacked since I haven't had the need nor pleasure to have thrown it in the past year. If the chute is an insurance policy, the repack is the annual premium. Kevin. What I MissedMeanwhile, I was sick at home with the same crud that knocked our Thursday retrieve driver, Chris Hall out of action. Next time I'll post a tracklog of me walking though our home from the kitchen and then back to bed. At least last night I had dreams of soaring while I was snoring. I'll recover to fly another day. |

Good, clear, warm day.
Good, clear, warm day. 12-16 WSW at Marshall.
Launched a Falcon 3 195 at 15:05 and climbed immediately. The strong westerly wind was distorting the thermals and sending them more across the slopes than up them. Note the drift of the thermal I caught from above the 750 and took to out in front of Marshall. Easy to stay up, but had to be mindful of where I was headed. The 500-800 FPM thermal I caught at Regionals drifted ENE despite my desire to go NNE - I fell out the side and had to re-center before taking it to 5700 (it did turn to head a little more northerly above 5k MSL); lost 600 feet heading for the spine west of Crestline launch. Billboard was happening, but the rest of the face was only so-so in the crosswind.

Fun 1 hour flight. Looked like a good crowd for the glass-off.
GPS track images and flight gory details on my website.
Two kittens still available.
Good Flying,
