High Noon... it is

I to will be in the LZ.

Sounds like we got us a Posse.

Elsinore Sucked

12:30 blowing in at 20. 12:35 blowing down 5 - 10. Mitch launched PG and abruptly sank out. All others packed up and made it home early.

oh no

damn, from AJ it looked like Elsinore was going off.

We were a bit late to launch to take advantage of big air today. I think we were launching just as the sea breeze was working its way in. I got 8000 over the turn out, but the air was really lumpy with a lot of sink.

I really owe you guys a debt of gratitude.......

.....for lying to me about what I actually missed today. Instead of playing hooky I drove in to work to attend a thrilling seminar on the new IRS rules and regulations for tax return preparer penalties. Meanwhile everyone who flew from AJ or the E was landing at Dana Point and is now just kicking back and relaxing while posting this BS about what a bad day it was using the tavern's WiFi and house laptop.

So, out with it. I want to see some tracklogs with the real 13K/60mile tracks and the short walk with vario/GPS in hand to the nearest purveyor of distilled spirits. Come on. I can take it like a man.

You really were just putting the rest of us on right?

Heh

It was a pretty standard day with unexpected weakness after 2:30. However almost any day flying beats a day at work. I burned a vacation day and really enjoyed the time with my fellow HG friends.

Good, then Windy

I got to the LZ around 10:30 to see Steve and Mike totally sled on Falcons from the 750. They said they'd gotten above launch on the round before.

I launched a F3 170 from Regionals at 12:05 into a 500-600 FPM cycle that took me to 4500 quickly (sharp edges though). Soon another thermal took me to 5000 while the others climbed steadily from the Cloud spine. It was looking really good! Unfortunately, we had to land and fly other gliders. I cored 1000 FPM down over the 750 instead of having to stuff the bar for a while. On a right-hand approach into the LZ I found the lift on final and tried to put my feet on the basetube to pull in even more, but I was soon through it and managed to land at the far edge of the PG circle, which was my target. 20 minutes airtime.

At 13:35 it was windier at Regionals and bumpier in the air and I flew another F3 170. The wind was taring the smaller thermals apart and giving ridge lift (and rotor) off the spines, so it was confusing for a bit. Easy to stay up but not easy to climb much. It was blowing SW solidly at the LZ, so I did a high left-hander to avoid the NE corner sink hole. Despite coming in high enough to land at the PG ground handling area in light wind I ended up flaring the Falcon pretty close to the NE corner! Another 20 minute flight.

We were loading the trailer when DbyD landed and said he'd gotten to 8k but it was rough. Lots of virga coming down looking toward Running Springs/Big Bear.

Good Flying,
Ken Howells

Thanks for the ride up Mike

I think the cloud development in the dessert pushed the airliners to a new low.
I didn’t see it first. I heard it a mile away, Wow really loud, almost as loud as my heart pounding.
