Cloudy Friday 8-29

Launched Crestline in the Sport 2 around 3:30 not expecting much of a soaring flight due to the high cloud cover. There wasn't much ridge lift so I made for the billboard and was rewarded with a nice smooth thermal to 6400. I decided to head east instead of my usual trip to Pine. Made it to the turn-out before turning back for the Crestline ridge. I was low when I got back and had to head out to regionals, but not for long. Found another light thermal that drifted back over Cloud. Worked the light, but consistent lift to about 5800 and turned back for the Billboard. Got up, went to Pine and back and Pine again. Got to 6000 over Pine and flew west toward SugarPine. I got one peak sort of it, before turning back for Pine. Got back up over Pine and went back to the Billboard, Crestline and then out to Marshall and the radio towers before landing.

1 hour 52 minutes of smooth conditions. It was great August flying (although not as great as this time last summer.) The high clouds seemed to mellow out the lift, but not reduce the amount of it. Lots of fun flying with Rob, John and Tim.
