GPS track log programJohn and Dave, Forums > BS (Banter Section) Flight > GPS Track see youyup we are using seeyou. Its pretty easy to use, at least for the basic stuff. ...yeah 130 Euros... hmmmmm i wonder if I know anyone with a "special" version???? ;) -Dave Any help would be appreciated. The 130E pricetag will keep me away. If you have any suggestions maybe you could email me at chris(at)etrecruiting(dot)com. Free/Open Source AlternativesPersonally, I use a combination of GPSBabel (http://www.gpsbabel.org/) and Google Earth (http://earth.google.com/) to do track download and visualizing. I use GPSBabel to grab from my Garmin GPS, and convert it right to KML, and then view/update/modify the KML inside Google Earth. special versionsI couldn't find one... this is one of the few "legit" pieces of software I own and well worth it. It really is helpful for post-flight analysis. When something happens in a flight that I am curious about, like I lose a thermal, I make a mental note of it, then review the thermal in See you and say to myself something to the effect of: "ok, so I fell out the back of it." I also used it, for example, to figure out what I did wrong on approach recently on a sport 2 for the first time (I stayed on entry leg too long). John - Glad to hear you gotJohn - Glad to hear you got a ride in a Sport 2. How'd you like it? Where's the video? ;-) I was worried about my own landing approach from last Saturday (we'll blame it on airsickness and 28 years since my last mountain flight) and so I studied it in SeeYou too. - Jonathan SeeYou Is WorthItI pay the $20/year for Google Earth Plus and I can download directly from my GPS into Google Earth. The GPS babel -> klm -> GE method works also. The thing is, SeeYou does all that nice coloring of climb rates, speeds, graphs altitude (and alt above terrain), overhead and 3D views, gives lists showing gains circling left and right and other stats. Plus it digitally signs your .igc files to show they haven't been tampered with. So much to ponder and obsess over. You can 'play' tracks and have it go to 'next thermal' or 'previous thermal'. You can even load multiple tracks from pilots flying at the same time and see them fly against each other. This is small-market, specialized software so the cost makes sense, and if you consider that you're going to be using it for several years it doesn't cost that much. Your kids probably get too much protein anyway ;) GPS track images and flight gory details on my website. Good Flying, Ken - I was browsing yourKen - I was browsing your SeeYou tracks from work yesterday and marvelling at your prolific flying activity. I especially like those flights from the 750 to above Crestline then the hike back to your truck from the LZ. That works for me! I spoke w/ a former competition pilot on Monday and he swore by SeeYou as a real powerful tool to improve your flying. Maybe you can help me with the trial version. I cannot load the detailed Google Earth 3D terrain. I can load the vector map and sectional map but can't figure out how to add the 3D GE terrain. MaxpunkteIf you want a free program to download flights, you can always use Maxpunkte http://www.maxpunkte.de/competition.html It'll allow you to create an igc file as well as convert it to a kml Google Earth file. TopoFusionI use Topofusion to download, visualize and analyze flights. I think it was $40 and the demo was free. www.topofusion.com. Alan The real issue is the Dollar vs. the Euro.At current rates that $191 US. Ouch. Anyone else considering buying the software? Maybe we could think of a way to cut the cost. ;) Don't know about thatIt's been a while since I installed, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to risk 200 clams that way. See you is one of the reasons I am not givin my macheen its annual rebuild. I am not entirely sure how easy it will be to rereg it. It's worth it. re installsIve had seeyou for about 4 yrs now. I've installed it on 5 or 6 (of my)machines so far. no probs. compegps on the other hand only allows 2 installs then locks out until you call them and whine. Seeyou is well worth the money. helps get you through the long cold winter by reflying, via the animation feature, the good flights from summer. SeeYou Trial Version Terrain Details - Help NeededCan somebody tell me how to get all that nice terrain detail in SeeYou 3D? Mine is very smooth and lacks the great details like in Ken's, Dave's, and John's. Is it coming from some source outside the program's data files? I love the porgram so far but before I buy it I want to be sure I can get similar results. Thanks! Don't really recall, but it was simpleJonathan, I don't remember the details, and looking at the program it aint crystal-clear. I installed the program a few years ago and haven't had to fiddle with it. You need to get the satellite images and activate them. http://www.naviter.si/download/north-america/2.php?Itemid=27 CSS is in the 34-117 area, file n34w117.cmr I'm using SeeYou v 3.2 (8/2005), so details may have changed. GPS track images and flight gory details on my website. Good Flying, D'Oh! I had installedD'Oh! I had installed n44w119. I'm downloading the n34w119 file now. They no longer have n34w117. Now it's between w119 and w114, so I'm figuring that this'll do it. Once it's done I post my result. Finally! |

SeeYou
Chris,
I believe they both use SeeYou http://www.naviter.si/products/seeyou.php?Itemid=203
I just downloaded the trial version and barely know how to use it, but it's pretty groovy stuff.

Cheers, Jonathan
