hmmm

I bet that's John Wright. He was the only one flying at that time.

The Billboard was ON today, I saw 1800 fpm! My vario was singing the sweetest song I ever herd all the way up to 6400.

...note my GPS was acting funky and the altitude is not right.

great day!

made it to 8,600 feet at keller peak, and went on glide to pine without a single turn. caught one there to 6,200 and continued on to cajon. note to self: don't try to out-fly rebardan when he's on his atos vx. cheater.

thanks john, dave, and dan for such a great day!

Goin Low-en

Iron man owen, twirls up at "the paw" after getting pushed outa running springs to the lee of harrison -eek!- climbing out and grabbing keller peak puts his t2c in drive and boats home.
nice flying o. the lift east was sketchy and broken but put us up to 7-75 at the usual places.
west in cajon was dead I kept heading west thinking the good one was on the next spine. not. turned in front of the tower at alt 4600 and headed back in ridge lift. JW & DbD had pizza and brew there. thats the ticket! thanks again!

Picked the right day to play hooky

I had the hope that the inversion would be a bit higher today, and it was... at least the one over Crestline. Seemed like there was another one around 4500 or so, but I got around 6500 a buncha times.

Tagged Pine the first time in a while, so went back for thirds in case I wouldn't see it again soon..

I found thermals mostly with sharp edges, but strong and fairly wide.

The ol' jalopy had one of each type of wing on it: single surface Falcon; double surfaced, kingposted Sport 2; topless T2C; and a rigid ATOS VR. All carried their pilots on fun flights.

Whee

Wow guys, does this signal the coming of great flying weather again? Great to hear of the good lift.

Cowabunga!!!

Thumbs Up Over BillboardThumbs Up Over BillboardI got to ride the elevator to the 12th floor of 10960 Wilshire Blvd, in Westwood today. Geez. We musta been climbing at 45 cable drum revs per minute. When we reached my floor I did a little hop and floated half way to the ceiling. I shoulda added a 1/2 twist and pretended I was playing hooky with y'all.

Great day and good news! It all sounds encouraging. Meanwhile I'm banging my head against the wall with Linda to get a custom hang strap made for my Sport 2. It's 5" too short. Luckily I bought a box of leftover parts from a gut in AZ who bailed from the sport and wouldn't ya know, there was a U2/Sport 2 hang strap in there with the stainless tangs. I know Betty at HES can make me a custom strap as long as she has those tangs. If WW lets me down I'll be overnighting the spare stock strap to Betty mañana.

So, here's me pretending I was with you.

How To Get The Right Hang Height

Yes, thank you, Ken! Linda

Yes, thank you, Ken!

Linda Meier pointed me to that article yesterday after I drove her completely bonkers when I kept repeating how I needed a 5" longer than stock loop and she kept insisting that I needed the distance from the bottom of the desired loop to the top of the basetube, etc., etc. I wasn't about to drive home from work to reassemble my glider just so I could take a simple dimension. Buried inside that article is the fact that the stock loop is 55" from the base tube and I knew that Eric, the prior owner used a WW harness and would not have swapped out his loop. Meanwhile I was already to have Betty make me a custom loop from a set of tangs from a cast off U2 hang strap I have. This morning, Linda indicated my new 5" longer hang strap should be ready tomorrow. So, there you have it. I was anxious to fly it first before I made any changes and not too worried becuase that's the way I used to fly, befoe I had sissy arms. I did check it out carefully in the same manner as the article before I calculated needing 5" additional hang. I had guessed at 3" but after my first phone call w/ Linda I thought I'd better set it up and realty check my (faulty) assumptions. Anyway, if it needs any additional tweaking, I'll have Betty made me another one from my spare hang strap tangs.

Betty admonished me never to add a loop to a KP hang strap due to the possible dangers, so I decied to do it right or fly my Falcon instead until I get this fixed.

GPS track

Dave-
What program do you use for your GPS log?
Thanks,
Chris
