Elsinore Wed 8-6-08We arrived at launch at 12:00. I watched as 'Beer me Chucky' set up his HG. He launched at 12:40 and went straight up to 5600' msl. I launched at 12:50 and went up to 300' over and worked for 45 min. (how did he do that?). I finally hooked a good one that took me to 6K' msl. Headed South to the haze domes. I went to the South towers and got to 8100' msl. (big haze dome). I wondered what happened to Chuck and what should I do with all this altitude? I got him on the radio and he had landed at a new school on Grand Ave. about 4.5 miles South of the Oak Tree LZ after a 1 1/2 hour flight. He was going to go to the LZ and would get my car and chase me down. Cool, I had a driver! I topped out the next thermal at 8380' msl and saw the haze domes moving across the lake, and I headed down wind. I got to Canyon Lake and had to wait for the shear to catch up, getting below 4K in the process. Patience with the shear paid off. I got up to 7800' and headed East over Newport Rd. I ended up on the North side of Diamond Valley Lake. East of Winchester and South of Hemet. Chuck had, in fact, had to walk all the way back to the LZ to get my car. (4.5 miles). Then drove my car out to get me. He pulled up under me on Newport Road when I was 200' agl. I was on final. I landed on the shoulder of the road at 5:00 pm with my car right there 20' away. Can you say SWEET! I sure did. Nothing in the predictions hinted at such altitudes. A great day at Elsinore. A big thanks to Chuck! Forums > Pilot Reports Flight > PG Sites > Elsinore |
