Elsinore 6/21 and 6/22

Tough weekend at Elsinore. Some really good flights and some really short flights. Sat began to blow down around 12:15. At times it looked like there would be no flying. An occassional upslope would turn the sock around and gliders began to launch thinking it was now or never. 10 minutes after everyone launched the wind changed direction again and blew up for at least another 30 mins. The majority got flushed to the LZ.
Two gliders Bill Sod and Eric Delf managed to find a core and climb out of the canyon. Also two panties including Everyday Mike were successful. The hangs reported altitudes of 11.5. Bill escorted Eric who had no radio on an X/C flight sheperding him to a final destination of Anza. Sunday was another day. Blowing down when we arrived at 10:45. We set up our wings even though it was constantly blowing down. About 11:30 Spike launched into a thermal. Bill followed shortly, but had to run well down slope.
Then it returned to blowing down. At 12:15 wind stopped momentarily and I sprinted off. Had a good launch and found the E still working. Several minutes passed and Eric launched.
We all climbed to 5500 together. Bill and Spike crossed the lake and began their X/C attempts. About 1pm entire ridge shutdown. Found some lift over lake climbed to 5000 for about 30 mins then sank out landing at 1:30. Everyone was on the ground by now except Bill. He got low several times and was in communications with sailplanes and others. He eventually worked his way over to San Gregornio and crossed over to Palm Springs getting to an altitude of 13500 (COLD). Flew west and landed in Indio at 3pm. 117 degrees (Hot). Bill thinks he had a chance to make the Colorado, but opted out. Brain Freeze?
