Marshall Weed Whacking Saturday 6-28-08

Marshall needs to be weed whacked before the July Fly-In. Its also a good touch to clear the weeds around the railroad ties to remind the Forestry Service that CSS cares. (Last year that proved not to be so bad, its mostly foxtails and wild oats that go pretty fast.)

I am leaving town on July 3 so I will be missing the Fly-In but I was thinking of tackling some of the Marshall weeds this weekend. Can anyone join me Saturday, June 28? I can transport the equipment and take as many as 3 HGs and/or PGs up to launch. You can fly afterward.
(If Sunday or Friday would work better we could do that instead.)

Let me know if you can join me. We could meet in the LZ at 9:00. (Earlier if you want to beat the heat?)

Keep an eye on plans

Joel,

Thanks for signing up, but keep an eye here for any change of plans such as when to meet.

Can Do

Do we need tools or anything? Joel work to live, don't live to work

Thanks for joining in Joel

You could bring a weed whacher if you want, but the club has 3 working weed whackers if you don't have one. Do bring ear and eye protection and gloves. A pair of pruning shears to lop off small branches of bushes could be helpful.

Makeover

Oh oh, this sounds like a serious makeover in the works! I'll be there.

Re-Zig-Zag the Fence

A good thing to do while we have a crew up there would be to realign the fence on top of Marshall into a proper zig-zag pattern. There's a sharp couple of bends at the north end and with a few guys lifting a section at a time those bends could be reduced and the leftover angular degrees could be distributed evenly working south. Much of the fence is leaning way over, meaning the tops aren't great for sitting on or setting gear, and a buzzed yahoo with a big truck could topple the thing.

I can't commit to being there at this point.

Good Flying,
Ken Howells

The Fence

Good idea about the fence. You know if it hadn't been for Kathy Rhodes we wouldn't have had any zig-zag at all. We were laying them in a straight line until she pointed out the instability problem. The Genius Factor. I'll bring my wrecking bars for leverage.

Actually

I first suggested it and Kathy went from my group at the north end to the other group(s) with the idea. Don't blame you for remembering her instead of me :)

Meeting at 9:00 AM Satruday for the Marshall Weed Whacking Party

Just a reminder that we’ll be meeting in the LZ at 9:00 AM for the Marshall Weed Whacking Work Party. We have 3 working weed whackers and I’ll bring two loping shears and I’m going to try my lawn mower on the flatter parts. If anyone has a gas powered hedge trimmer it would be helpful.
Bring whatever tools you want, ear and eye protection, gloves, and whatever beverages and snacks you will want up there.
I won’t be flying but I can take 3 HGs and/or PGs up and you can fly afterward.

Hitchin' a ride
