Saturday totally a different day than Friday. Some pilots were good enough to get above the constant up and down cycles over the spine.
Many of us struggled for quite awhile. Some finally giving up and
seeking the LZ. After at least 30 minutes of tight scratching
with several wings found and cored a tight thermal which broke me through the wind layer. The pilots who had gotten up earlier
had already left for X/C. Jerry who I had flown with on Friday again was my flying partner. The stronger lift was just behind launch where I spent alot of time. Tried going to South towers early and got drilled. Saw Jerry heading for Rad Dans and heard Everday Mike on his new radio expressing how good it was down near
Saddleback. Saw Mike working to get to cloudbase under the only Cumi around. Decided thats where I wanted to be. Got there really low and had to turn back to LZ. Didn't get far before snagging a sweet updraft. Climbed above Mike and Jerry. Nearly got to cloutbase at 6300 when it dissipated. Cumi's were dissipating and not sucking like they had been on Friday. Eric (lifeguard) joined us and we hade a foursome. 3:00 flew down to So Towers getting there easily. This time on way back to the E sink was strong.
3:30 still blowing in at Launch. Got low over Edwards where it was blowing down and began descent to LZ. Flag was still blowing in, but I knew landing was going to be iffy. Kept checking windsocks and decided that instead of the normal crossfield landing I would make the downhill approach. Great approach, but
failed to execute the flair sequence. Pilot error (whackkkk).
3 1/2 hr. flight 6 hrs total for two days not bad? Mike and Jerry landed shortly after. Bill Sod flew a demo T2C for the first time and flew to Hemet and back landing around 4.30.
