CRASH CORBIN tangles with a tree...

Seems as though Steve got hammered East of the dump, just short of Running Springs yesterday, and headed out but didn't make it...had to put it into a large tree...then slid off the tree and hit very hard. (back injuries) The doctors at Loma Linda want to operate. If anyone wants to visit Steve....Floor 8200 Room #41

Get Well soon

Dang Steve, I hope you recover quickly. I hope you chop down that tree when you get a chance....

Mark Hoffmann

Dang is right. Get well

Dang is right. Get well soon. Were you thinking that you could relaunch from that tree after the sink had passed through? If anyone could pull that off it's Steve. -Peter S

Get Well, Steve

Hope it turns out well quickly, Steve.

We expect you back out flying soon!

Steve, wishing you a speedy recovery.

The up side is the people at Loma Linda are top notch.
.
Wishing you a positive recovery.

Dumped at the Dump, then Dumped by a Tree?

I'm very sorry to hear of your accident, Steve. Heal well and do what the medicos tell ya.

How soon will you be able to drive? ;)

Good Flying,
Ken Howells

When you return...

Well Steve, you'll just have to wait a bit longer to get your grubby paws on that cute little diver. We hope you'll be back soon.

CRASH update...

Rebar and I went to see Steve today, turns out the tree was all of 40 ft high. He flared into the top of the tree and slid over the far edge and into a virtical dive, into giant rocks...exploded T-7 mid back vertebrae.
He signed "permission to operate" forms for tomorrows operation. Their going to take bone from his hip and transplant it to his T-7 vertebrae, along with titanium pins and screws, in other words their going to fuse his back at T-7. He also broke a rib and punctured a lung.
What do we learn from a situation like this??? Know what kind of weather your flying in for starts....Have a radio or cell phone, or both...Know when to head out! WHACKKKKK!

the red badge of courage

In Surgery

I called at 5:15 and they said he'd gone down to surgery 'about an hour ago'. Hope for the best.

Good Flying,
Ken Howells

recovering

Steve's out of surgery and doing well under the dilaudid blanket of love. This guy is pilot all the way to his new titanium core. fresh out of surgery and already calculating the month of his return to flying.

When To Head Out

OK here is the formula.

(Kenny and Dans Alt) + 3,000 Ft = Get Out Now

I wonder if Steve should have thrown his chute....

ah man

Steve you better get better man, your one of my favorite guys to fly with! Wednesday night glass offs will not be as fun with out ya.

-Dave

Whoa!

Inadvertant interaction of the arboreal nature.
I hope the Dr's put you back together good. I will miss you out at the hill. Heal fast. See you soon.

Been there..done that...

Steve,

They pinned my pelvis and stitched my bladder, but the pain medication was fun while it lasted. Watch out for those man nurses, they just might want to sponge you down.

Bob

Mr. Corbin's doing fine...

Diane (Stv's better half)gave me a call from the hospital earlier and sounded real positive on the whole situation, Steves sounding a a lot less looped, positive conversation, and a lower level of pain. Doctors are impressed with the way the operation went.
I sent him a cell phone earlier to have with, when AV8ing, and a print out of the posts here on the forum, and a quart of whisky and some reds.......NOT!!!
Whackkkkk!

looped

He didn't need any whisky or reds yesterday when I saw him. He was a little looped up on meds, but coherent and talkative. All he remembers about the surgery is that he doesn't remember anything. Brought him a hg mag and some cigars that I'm sure the nurses will love.

Tom
