Bushes near the Bottom of Crestline Launch

I saw a couple of launches at Crestline today that came pretty close to the bushes down the slope. These were good running launches with a reasonable amount of wind coming up the slope. We could all benefit from some trimming down there when these long runs are needed. Are we allowed to cut those bushes in broad daylight or does that have to happen “by itself" some night?

terrorists

I hear Al-Qaeda often targets bushes in the San Bernardino mountains.

They are preparing for Oak Tree assaults in the Lake Elsinore area.

So I've heard

oops

I just realized I will now have the NSA targeting our website.

Back to work you sand crabs!

Bushes near the Bottom of Crestline Launch

I was one of the pilots that had a close encounter with Mr. Bush/Tree/Branches:) I had a strong run with the nose down, i lifted and was flying with great air speed. After i traveled about 20 feet forward a thermal banked me 40 degrees to the left. The headwind seemed to drop to zero as indicated by my wing starting to loose roll response. I pulled in to get the wing flying again
which put me face to face with Mr. Tree/Bush. Large amounts of right roll input with a punch the nose up at the last few seconds and my left wing cleard the mess with a foot to spare :)))) that was the strongest turbulance i have had at launch in 12 years. (knock on wood, better luck next time Tree)

There were lots of pilots getting nice 2 hour flights today. a bunch of visiting pilots were fun to fly with.

Ps

Mike, Rip that tree out by the roots :)

Wha?

Are you saying we could all benefit from some trimming of the bushes down there? Well, I guess summer IS approaching.

left side

if youre brimming with caffeine or ambition whack the bushes to the left side also. to the nub for top landing crestline

bush whacking party

WHen and where?

What equipment are we allowed to use?

I don't think its a real big job. I'm just wondering what equipment we are allowed to use. Can we go up there with a chain saw during the day, or does Stan think we should use bikini wax in the middle of the night?

From what I know

hand tools - no big deal.

power tools, due to fire considerations, you need to take precautions.

Not a definitive answer, mind you.

EDIT: this, of course, does not address whether it's okay in the first place, this is just what I heard about the bushes along marshall road

Bush whacking

You should ask Hillary or Obama for the best up to date tools on Bush Whacking

Slight problem

Yea, by that logic, the two people sent to whack the bush will beat the snot out of each other with the tools while some old guy launches.

/just sayin'

whack

why it was just a few years ago that bush said it was just going to hang out down there by the rock, green up the area, then move on. now it's roots are firmly entrenched and spreading. and barring intervention, looks like it'll be there forever. you decide. should it stay or should it go?

Has to go

Safety for us is a plus all around...fewer rescues mean lower taxes, right? :)
