It was breezy today up on Marshall. I made an easy 3 step launch into lots of lift but never got above 4500. Mostly I just headed into the wind at trim with little penetration. Boated around for awhile and then I noticed Mike B. flying around me…I mean literally flying circles around me. While I pointed into the wind and made an occasional lazy turn he circled around me at what seemed like twice the speed and twice the radius. He was always a little higher too. He also launched before me and landed after. And he was closer to the spot. I tried not to take it personally, after all, his Sport 2 is a little newer than mine.
There was a fairly stiff wind upon landing, and the severest wind gradient I’ve encountered in many months. Good time to have lots of speed.
In the LZ Dusty told me the wind had been pretty strong for PG's, but he, Gene and Wayne appeared to have good flights.

Tim and Joel were also

Tim and Joel were also enjoying the smooth HG conditions.

Funny how perceptions work when it seemed to you that I was flying twice the speed...it appeared to me that you were flying faster and with larger turns than I was!

Midweek

What a nice way to chop a little fun out of the middle of a windy week! Got a fairly interesting white-knuckle launch when my right wing came up, as I stepped off the hill, but it worked out with a bit of correction. Note to self: keep wings LEVEL and control pitch carefully! More focus this time on situational awareness, except forgetting to shift my hands to the downtubes until too late. Humble pie, my favorite dish... Joel
