pilot personality profilehang glider and paraglider pilots are an interesting group. if you have a moment, take this myers-briggs type personality test: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp although intj's represent only 2% of the general population, we've got at least four in our club. my guess is that there are a few more. intj's dan deweese entj's dusty rhodes
Forums > BS (Banter Section) dusty and knumbknutsI got entj... though the last two are slightly so. Interesting observations about the hang gliding personality type, Owen. Is it part of the INTJ type to take this kind of test and then analyze a peer group and ask them to take the test? hmmmm... intj: Masterminds can be quite ruthless in implementing effective ideas, seldom counting personal cost in terms of time and energy. (storage container, ranch house, tractor, sprinklers... hmm....) entj: Field Marshals will usually rise to positions of responsibility and enjoy being executives. They are tireless in their devotion to their jobs and can easily block out other areas of life for the sake of their work. Field Marshalls are legends in their own minds, while others tolerate them in fear of egging them on. They are also renowned for cracking wise, skylarking, and untimely flatulence. Wow. Pretty spot-on test. Well it say's...........INTJ.............I think this test might have a glitch or two??? Maybe I should read the directions? WHACK! ISTJ although I would ratherISTJ although I would rather it be something else. But the happiness I get from flying hang gliders makes it irrelevant! INTP HereReading the extended "Architect" profile felt like someone had been following me around with a notepad. Even said I might go into computer programming. The music taste descriptions were quite wrong - I like that sappy harmonic stuff (Copland etc.), avoid modern classical like the plague. I saw a mention that most aviators were ISTP ("Craftsman") and felt a lot of affinites. Straddling the fence, as usual, but us Virgos are like that ;) GPS track images and flight gory details on my website. Good Flying, Another ISTJIn ISTJ, I stands for Introvert and S stands for Sensitivity. While I got 100% for introvert I got 1% for sensitivity. (It would appear that negative scores are not possible.) Mike Z How come? How come all mine says is, "No more pets for you, you little freak!"? I Guess... ISTJThe Portait of the Inspector (ISTJ) Inspector Guardians look carefully and thoroughly at the people and institutions around them. Making up perhaps as much as ten percent of the general population, Inspectors are characterized by decisiveness in practical affairs, are the guardians of institutions, and if only one adjective could be selected, "superdependable" would best describe them. Whether at home or at work, Inspectors are nothing if not dependable, particularly when it comes to examining the people and products they are responsible for-quietly seeing to it that uniform quality is maintained, and that those around them uphold certain standards of attitude and conduct. These quiet, no-nonsense Guardians have a distaste for and distrust of fanciness in speech, dress, and living space. Their words tend to be simple and down-to-earth, not showy or high-flown; their clothes are often homespun and conservative rather than of the latest fashion; and their home and work environments are usually neat, orderly, and traditional, rather than up-to-date or luxurious. In their choice of personal property (cars, furnishings, jewelry, and so on) price and durability are just as important as comfort or appearance. Classics, antiques, and heirlooms are especially valued, having achieved a certain time-honored status-Inspectors prefer the old-fashioned to the newfangled every time. Even on vacation, Inspectors tend not to be attracted by exotic foods, beverages, or locales. Their thoroughness and orderliness, combined with their interest in legality and standardization, leads Inspectors to a number of occupations that call for the careful administration of goods and services. Inspectors feel right at home with difficult, detailed forms and columns of figures, and thus they make excellent bank examiners, auditors, accountants, and tax attorneys. Managing investments in securities is likely to interest this type, particularly investments in municipal bonds and blue-chip securities. Inspectors are not likely to take chances either with their own or others' money, and the thought of a bankrupt nation, state, institution, or family gives them more than a little uneasiness. The idea of dishonoring a contract also bothers an Inspector -their word is their bond-and they naturally communicate a message of trustworthiness and stability, which can make them successful in business. With their eye for detail, Inspectors make good business men and women, librarians, dentists, optometrists, legal secretaries, and law researchers. High school and college teachers of business administration, home economics, physical education, civics, and history tend to be Inspectors, as do quartermaster officers in the military. NOW CAN WE JUST GO FLYING? This seems like the the stuff you see on Match.com or some shrinks office and we can get it all for free right here. The Introvert AdavntageIt's an excellent book written by Marti Olsen Laney, check it out of you local library to read on those (many,lately)non-flyable days. Interesting topic Owen, you stimulated quite a discussion, even Stan came out of his lair.... Bob Add me, Brian Jacobs, to the INTJ list...And another person named Brian, no less. I dunno, it all seems natural to me. Like, what else would I be doing? I can't understand why there aren't a hundred thousand people flying at Marshall. I'd take that test but II'd take that test but I know I'd flunk it. Hang Gliding is inherently fun INTJ!!??INTJ must mean " Newbie with new glider, who's pissed off at the weather", or maybe the Latin equivalent thereof. work to live, don't live to work add one more INTJ to the CSSadd one more INTJ to the CSS roster. Apparently I am an INTJ....
Others call me either a crazy a-hole or a friend. Does not seem to be too much in-between….go figure.
I like the solitude of soaring and the individual accomplishment that soaring flight entails. However, I enjoy the comradery in the LZ at the end of the day.
I do often wonder what makes me want to fly so much.
