Dec. Surprise - 12/16/07 Marshall

Really nice December day with mare's tails all over the sky and very clear air. Plenty of thermals, small and about 150-250 FPM generally. Launched a Sport 2 155 from Marshall at 13:25. Wind was mostly crossing from left at launch. Got to 5200 just behind Marshall and headed for Crestline. Got there at 4800 and had one bump before pointing back out to Cloud Peak. Got down in the 3-3.5k zone for a long time, but it was fun scratching. Was unzipped at 2700 over the bluffs and found a core that took me all the way up to over Cloud in about 30 circles. Went to Marshall and got 5200 again and made it back to the highway before doing a u-ey back to Marshall. Boated around and landed after 1:10 that seemed more like 2+ hours. Lots of fun, lots of happy pilots in the LZ.

GPS track images and flight gory details on my website.

P.S. Big thanks to Tony from Ridgecrest for driving Peter and Dexa's vehicle down before your 14:00 ride up on the McBus. Looked like you were last to land HG for the day, and a nice one at that. Thanks again!

You said it Ken!

Everyone was happy. Beautiful skies, fun flights. First time back in the air for me in 8 weeks. Couldn't ask for more. (But I do need to learn to dress a little warmer.)

Send us some more of that Goddess of Hang Gliding!

glad you had a good flight

Mike Z,

Glad you got a good flight... I didn't realize it had been 8 weeks. Argh!

Thanks for the write-up again, ken.

Sunday was indeed fun! It

Sunday was indeed fun! It was great to fly Crestline for the first time.

I launched around 1500 into a nice 17 mph straight in breeze and ridge soared with many hawks at about 250' over. After about 30 min I was cold (warm clothes left in car...) and decided to head out, finding nothing but dead smooth air all the way down to the LZ for a nice approach and a reasonable landing.

A big thanks to Dianne for sticking around to help me launch and for noticing that I was nowhere to be seen from the LZ...I need to get a radio:)

What a beautiful place to fly with a great group of people.

Tony
