Marshall, 21 June, 07

Hot. Not bad up over 5500 MSL though.

Did a couple of mid-day flights from Marshall with U2s. Both times I found lift right after launch and climbed mostly straight up, the first flight to 5000 MSL before exiting and wandering around a bit before landing. The other pilots had no trouble soaring. Pretty turbulent around the LZ at 12:35.

The second flight, at 14:00, I was waiting for a cycle when a gaggle of vultures and hawks climbed past the windsock. I powered off and got under them, climbing to 5500 MSL in short order at 500-800 FPM. Back at Crestline it was all thermals, and I got to 5800 before diving back out front and coring sink to land.

Good first day of Summer.

Flight gory details on my website.

Good Flying,
Ken Howells
