Adding Images to Your Posts

Want to add a jpg or gif image to your forum posts?
It's almost brain-dead easy - here's how:

Click the 'Add Image' icon in the forum posting form and follow some instructions to upload the image and insert a thumbnail into your post.

  1. Choose the relevant gallery section for your image
  2. Enter a title and find your image with the browse button.
  3. You can add a caption or explanatory text. This is what people will see when they view the image in the galleries, so it doesn't hurt to add a sentence or two here, even if it seems redundant to what's in your post - it won't show up in your post.
  4. Choose 'submit' (you can edit the gallery page later if needed).

The image will upload to the image galleries and you'll get the 'add image wizard' to put your image into your post.

  5. It defaults to using a 100 pixel wide thumbnail image. I like 'em bigger, so I choose 'other,' note the dimensions indicated, and then set the new dimensions. If the thumbnail were to be 100x80, I'd set the custom size to be 200x160 or 300x240, for example.
  6. Below that, choose 'link to image page' from the next drop-down so clicking the image will take one to the page with the larger version of the image.
  7. You can leave the 'insert mode' as filter tag
  8. Alignment is up to you.
  9. Click 'insert'

Now there'll be a block of text surrounded by square brackets in your posting-text that defines the image. You can cut and paste this to another place in the text if you like, or add more text before and after it.Anemometer Rime: The big March 2006 snowstorm walloped Crestline, knocking out power and making our weather station's instrument pole lean waaay over.Anemometer Rime: The big March 2006 snowstorm walloped Crestline, knocking out power and making our weather station's instrument pole lean waaay over. The text will wrap around it automatically, so you can put it into the middle of a block of text if you want to get fancy. To control placement beforehand, click the spot in the text where you want the image to go just before you click the 'add image' icon. If you're daring you can alter the settings within the image block, such as size, title or description.

The linux-based server is a bit fussy about filenames being in proper format for URL use, so avoid special characters and spaces in your image filenames. Replacing spaces with underscores ('_') works the best. You have to change the file name BEFORE you start the 'add image' process.
