Stolen Solar panels in the LZIt’s a sad day. Welcome to San Bernargetto ========================================================= There's an update from April 2008 way down below. Forums > Pilot Reports Sites > AJ Airpark Security camsI mentioned this to Owen about the HG storage container... I'll try to figure out some way to set up a low-power security system with IR cameras. I've done a few of these for clients, but they are on the power grid. electric fenceelectric fence ribbon with TASER voltage running through it. nighttime only. that was my plan way back when i lived in canoga park. after thieves stole my jobsite radio i figured i'd wire up 110,000 volts through a ribbon in the handle of a similar radio. leave it in the back seat of the car. when the thieves rip off the wired radio a motion switch sets off a timer and 10 seconds later the juice flows through the ribbon, the hand tightens around the handle and...voila! instant non-lethal rehabilitation. I used to live in CanogaI used to live in Canoga Park too. I prefer attaching hidden razor blades to anything portable enough to pick up and steal. police reportDid anyone file one with the local sheriff department? I was just wondering, sometimes they have some insight into this type of activities.... ace up our sleevesWell, we can just run an electrical circuit from the Ranch now. We did bury a conduit with the water lines we ran for sprinklers right??.... Finding more missing.........So far, it looks like three hang gliders were also taken from storage that night. 1 panel returnedOn Sunday evening (May 20th) local PG pilot Randy White was flying his approach and noticed a panel sitting in what turns out to be plain view of the LZ. The location can be described as... exiting the parking lot and turning right at the AJ concrete sign, going 150' NNE, stopping and getting out and walking 15' east toward the LZ. The panel was sitting upright on the east side of a large green bush with the solar cells facing the LZ. It was easily visible from the top of the LZ but not visible from the road or the LZ parking lot. It truly appears that the placement was intended so that we would find it either from flying over the area or from standing opn the west edge of the lawn and not by someone just driving by. So the thief either returned one of them at a later date -or- at the time of the theft decided to keep one and place the other one in this strategic place. I think it was an afterthought to return one of them. Perhaps conscience? It wasn't for the $ because if you go to all the trouble to get both why go to additional effort to return one. And why not return it all the way to the LZ? Maybe because it would then be in the open for the public to find and keep. A considerate thief. I suggest that for the next few flights, when you get a chance while descending through 400' to 800' and you are not in traffic, scan the area around the LZ perhaps to a radius of a couple thousand feet for the other panel and the three hang gliders. If the person responsible is reading this (anything's possible right?) please consider returning the other panel and the hang gliders. There are many ways to anonymously return the items, like a good hiding place and dropping a treasure map into the LZ drop box so we can go get the items. BTW, 2 of the gliders were a Mystic and a Duck, both old and worthless. Taking them was a favor to us. The other was an old Falcon 1 195 serial number 25038 with silver leading edge and red bottom (double surface area), the usual white trailing edge. It was my glider and was at the time on loan to Gene Embree who had no rack to haul it around, hence stored at the LZ in an irrigation tube. A replacement sail is in storage at my home but it looks like that sail will eventually go onto a different wing. Edit: The Duck has been found today about 700' SSW of the LZ. Nice workThe elctronic trails are the ones criminals never remember or understand. Reminds me of when my wallet with Amex got stolen and when the thief used it at the Supermarket they also swiped their supermarket club card which was registered with the thief's home address! He got 6 months. The bad guy eventually gets it in the end. |

A-HOLES!
Is this just the start of the random acts of stupidity. What if we were to install a web cam at the LZ to catch the perpetrators in the act?
Just a Thought.
