Marshall 28 April 07

It was almost like a little fly-in today. Maybe it was just the clear skies, warm weather and grinning pilots.

Very warm, steady 10+ SW at Marshall. We'd had north wind until around 9:00 AM; smog line out in Riverside and the top was very low. A few pilots had launched Crestline and were scratching down by the 750 when one finally got up to eye level. I launched the Falcon 225 at 14:23 and shortly got to 5700 NE of Marshall before heading back to Crestline, where the soaring was easy. Got to 6200 at Billboard a couple of times, 7000 north of Pine, then 6400 at Sugarpine. Made my way back to Marshall and decided to go ahead and land. Still breezy on top of Marshall, but very smooth. Landed at 15:45.

Later in the LZ Stan and Owen told me of long glides they had done - Stan from Crestline to Little Mountain, Owen From Cajon Pass east along the ridge to Heaps Peak - 12 miles?

John W. flew his Falcon twice and was grilling up a storm on his camp stove for whoever wanted a burger or brat. Thanks John!

The meeting was well attended. John Greynald, USHPA Region 3 Director and Board member of the Foundation for Free Flight (aka USHGF) came from Santa Barbara to present plaques from USHPA to Rob and Di McKenzie, Owen Morse, and Len Szafaryn in recognition for their extraordinary efforts on behalf of hang gliding and paragliding - Rob and Di for, well, we all know how much effort they put in; Owen and Len for buying the property just north of the LZ now known as the XC Ranch. It was really great that Rob had a student flying off the new tall training hill back by the Ranch house. We all applauded them, and applauded John and the FfFF in thanks for their granting us half the purchase price of the tractor. We discussed Pete's proposed HAM clinic and one of our Sylmar friends (their Prez, I think) piped up with some good info on HAM classes. There were a few more details, but I'll leave them for Kim to post in the minutes (hint hint).

Days like this I'm just overwhelmed by how good we have it, how great HG and PG pilots are.

Fun times yesterday. My

Fun times yesterday.

My last day flying, 9 days ago was, strictly in flight terms, "better." But, yesterday was a lot more fun, because 9 days ago hardly anyone was at the field. It was great to have everyone back from Florida, a field full of wings, laughter, and a well-run club.

Thanks to all the lynchpins, cornerstones, and volunteers that have made Crestline a great place to learn!

Fun Times

The only thing better than the flying last Saturday were the people participating in the fun. Doesn't get much better than that.

Good Times Were Had!

The Crestline crew is amazing!! It's great to see so many enthusiastic pilots on launch, in the air, and in the LZ. (Of course this is coming from a pilot who has been flying in southern NM (Dry Canyon)for the last three years and out there we consider a good turn out to be two or three people.) I had two flights yesterday the first one being more exciting than the second due to the stronger and better conditions. Big thanks to Rob for helping with my H3. John, thanks for the beer and braat, lets fly Weds for sure.

Crestline Crew rocks!!
