Flyable Window Saturday?

Based on the NWS forecast discussion, it'll start blowing down some time today, with N winds through Friday, possibly rather strong winds. There's a small chance Marshall could be flyable late Friday if the N weakens rapidly enough. Saturday is projected to have East winds becoming SE, followed by developing offshore flow Saturday night into Sunday.

Best bet for flying is to plan on Saturday for Marshall/Crestline. Could be some good altitudes. Dress warm.

Friday at Kagel

It should blow up at Kagel at about noon on Friday, maybe with no inversion.

fri switch?

the latest FSL plots are calling for a late day switch to west tomorrow. hard to believe given how hard it was blowing NW this afternoon in SBD. It was screamin.

Sunday Cold and Damp but Rippin'?

The forecast seems on track, with possibly strong onshore this afternoon at Crestline/Marshall.

Sunday could actually be good, depending on when/if it switches to north winds. From the NWS Discussion, Saturday AM:

ON SUNDAY THE TROF MORPHS INTO A CLOSED LOW OVER SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTY. 500 MB TEMPS FALL TO AN AMAZING -26C. DAYTIME HEATING
WILL RESULT IN VERY STEEP LAPSE RATES
...AND WITH MODEST AVAILABLE
MOISTURE THE THUNDERSTORM AND HAIL POTENTIAL WILL BE INCREASING
THROUGH THE DAY. THE ADDED MOISTURE WILL ALSO INCREASE OUR CHANCES
FOR MEASURABLE PRECIP...WITH A TENTH TO QUARTER INCH POSSIBLE IN THE
HEAVIEST SHOWERS. THE SNOW LEVELS WILL BE MUCH LOWER...FALLING TO
5000 FEET BY SUNDAY MORNING...AND AN INCH OR TWO OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE
AT RESORT LEVELS.

THE PACE OF THE CLOSED LOW HAS SLOWED. WILL KEEP THE THREAT FOR
PRECIP GOING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT...MAINLY IN THE MOUNTAINS AND
DESERTS FROM WRAP AROUND MOISTURE. ON MONDAY...THE LOW WILL BE OVER
WESTERN AZ. STRONG JET ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE LOW WILL BRING GUSTY
NORTH WINDS TO THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY.
THEN WARMER WITH LIGHTER WINDS TUESDAY UNDER TRANSIENT HIGH
PRESSURE.

Good Flying,
Ken Howells

definition of "good"

Sunday sounds bleak and rainy. Today looks GREAT! Strong and soarable. The lapse rate may not get us to 30,000 feet today, but it should be good enough for a fun flight and the winds will keep the panties grounded and out of the way.
