Valle De Bravo, Mexico

I am looking for any pilot reports or input from CSS members about flying at Valle De Bravo in Mexico, specifically during winter. Has any CSS members or forum readers done the week long vacation package that "Fly Mexico" puts on? Or is anyone considering a trip there this winter? I am considering a trip there in January or February (2007), and would appreciate any input. See you in the air, Alan Coffield

Valle

There are some pictures in the picture gallery I posted from my trip down there last January. I loved it and will be going again. The flying was great, but just as great was the town and the people. There's also a write up on it in this month's magazine.

Contact me if you want to know more.

Valle de Bravo

I have lived about 50 miles from Valle de Bravo Mexico for the last year and a half. I fly here in my area (Tenancingo) 3 or 4 days a week right now on my paraglider. I have some 20 years of HG experience. I speak perfect english, most of the old-timers of css should know me. I have a lot of opinions that might be very useful to any visitor. Basically, yes, Valle is an excellent site, but very over-priced, most of the local pilots don't know what the definition of a good site is. I like adventure and cross-country. I'm not interested in anyone's money. I just want to fly. Most of the others are very biased and want to suck your money.

Hey Don

Hey There Don, Are you still a sheet metal wizard. Remember when we were working at Fonda's sheet metal in 1987..... Too Cool

Hope you are doing well.

pS, How's the night life down there?

Hi Mark, No I'm now a "Brujo

Hi Mark, No I'm now a "Brujo de Artesanias de Cobre", that is, a Sorcerer in Copper Art. You or anyone else can contact my through my company website WWW.SUMOCOBRE.COM . These small high-altitude mountian towns are pretty conservative, (in a central mexican context,if your talking about women), but it is kind of like what... alabama must have been like about 100 years ago. Here we live more like what the founding fathers of the US must have envisioned. It's kind of hard to put into just a few words, but I love it and am happier than ever in my life. My only mistake was to not move here about 20 years ago. The flying is great, and to anyone wants to come and visit, I can show them how to spend next to nothing, fly all day, be a true Sky God, because most of the people here have never seen a flying aparatus of any kind. It is very rare to even see an airplane or helecopter in these skys, maybe once every few months, until I came along, nobody had flown in this valley. There are two other pilots within about 20 miles, but they don't fly like you or I do. How do you post a photo in this site? I have a ton of beautiful photos but just one of the beautiful verdant valley of Tenancingo will do.

That Sounds Great

Don, It sounds like a Great Way Of life down there. I will have to visit some time. California is just to crowded.....

Try looking in the Image Gallery for image posting techniques. If all else fails e-mail Ken Howells and he will give you the Beta.

Send tons of photos :)

5 choice photos

I've got 5 choice photos of the 4 best launch sites (and descriptions) from here to send your way, stunningly beautiful, but not too big images(15-25k). Can't seem to post them on the image galleries, although I would be happy to. They don't exist on the internet, just in my computer. Shoot me an email and I'll send them to you.

Posting Images

Don,

We'd love to see your photos. Our webhost just moved our site to a different machine, and the image folders were not writable; I've fixed that, so please try again.

If you haven't read the forum posting tips, go to:

http://www.crestlinesoaring.org/forum/20060528/66

Basically, when composing a forum post there's an icon below the big text area for the post's text. The icon is a green plus-sign with an angled "photo"; click that and a new window will open - if your browser is blocking pop-ups then you'll need to change that for this site. Click the 'upload' button at the top of the pop-up window and fill in the fields. To add to the galleries, click the 'Add Content' link in the left column menu and choose 'Image' and follow the instructions.

Email if you have questions.

Good Flying,
Ken Howells

Visiting Mexico from Jan 24 to Feb7th

Hi Don,

I am going down to Valle de Bravo next week for the Monarcha PG comp and will be around for a few days after. Is is easy to get a bus from Valle to Tenancingo or do you go through Toluca ? Any hotels you suggest near Malinalco or other local sites. I am interested in exploring the area to bring a small group of pilots to Mexico to fly away from crowds at Valle. A group of Northwest pilots did similar tours to Tapalpa area by renting 4 wheel drive vehicles and staying together at a local posada hotel. If you want another pilot to fly with email me at freespiritparagliding at gmail.com and I will see if I can visit your area for a couple of days. Any links to maps of the area online other than Google or Yahoo also appreciated.

Hola John, Malinalco is a

Hola John,
Malinalco is a little more touristy because of its precolumbian archiology, ancient architecture, and yuppies that say it has "good energy", thus it has some nice hotels and restaurants that are rather pricey. Nearby Tenancingo has better flying options, does not attract many foreign visitors, so it is a little less immaculate, but bigger than Mali, and with various hotels that range from seedy to medium quality, at more reasonable rates. You will all my contact information including cell phone at www.sumocobre.com with the english option.
