big crosswinds on takeoffToday had really powerful Santa Ana winds and I was very nervous about flying a C-172 in them. Nonetheless, I am near the end of my flight training program for the PPL, so it was expected for me to get out there and do battle. I had some real dread about climbing into the cockpit, and then a B-17 Bomber taxied by. It occured to me that there must have been far greater dread for the poor guys in WW2 that had to climb into that bomber before making runs over the heavily defended German factores and refineries. There were missions where a quarter of them didn't make it back and they knew the odds, yet still climbed aboard. Kind of puts the dread that we sometimes feel about flying into perspective.
