Marshall Flight Report Saturday 6/3/06Took the 1 PM McKenzie shuttle to Marshall. There were lots of bees flying around at the set up area. I guess they were mad about all of the weed eaters earlier. Launched at 2:30 into a good cycle. The first 15 minutes was a struggle to stay up. I had to start heading out to the LZ, dreading landing at that time because the winds in the LZ were VERY switchy. I got a low save while over the LZ and eventually took a very slow thermal drifting back over cloud to 5200. Flew back to Crestline and got to 6300 at the billboard. Went to Pine, but there was not much there so I cruised back to the bill board for security. After some time, I got low at Crestline and flew back to Regionals, where it was very boyant, and I had no trouble staying in very slow thermals that would top out about 5000. Finally my back was getting tired and my camelback was dry and so I went out to land. There was a HG and a PG getting low about the same time I wanted to land. It was a little never racking since the LZ was still switchy at 5:10 PM. I took the middle, the HG on my left, and the PG on my right, and had a perfect SW landing in 5 MPH headwind. A great day. A great start to Summer! Frank Hamann Forums > Pilot Reports Flight > HG Sites > Marshall |
