Rigid HG

flight report:
the weather forecast looked favorable for the task I'd been mulling over for a while after Bruce mentioned it a while back. crestline to laguna. my first thought was "ya right" so and I started thinking "what weather conditions would be needed in order to pull it off?" how bout an east meets west convergence with light south later in the day and with the east staving off the seabreeze holding the convergence to the laguna ridge till 5pm.

April 28th.......

access to marshall

It appears that we will be able to resurrect the USFS Volunteer program of 2 years ago. This is where a small group of pilots have been trained and uniformed by the USFS to escort pilots through the locked areas. In return we are asked to help patrol on the ground and in the air for any illegal entry into the closed areas. If you want to fly Marshall Peak, please call me for daily details on how this program works.

crestline sat., 20 oct, 07

a crazy-good day. mozied into the lz at 12:30pm with no ride prearranged. stan shows up five minutes later and asks if i needed a ride. already i can tell this is going to be a good day.

launched crestline and climbed to 6,300 just to the left of launch, and followed stan east. on the other side of highway 18, i caught a nice one to 7k and continued east to the high school. there i got to 7,200. santa's village was my next stop, back up this time to 7,300. jumped over running springs, and hooked up with a gentle giant with very little drift to 7,600. an easy stroll over to keller peak (snow valley) where i climbed to just over 8k. i hung out there for about a half hour trying to find the trigger to get me even higher, but didn't find anything... time to head west.

Sunday on Crestline with the Rigids

They just all took off and flew in diferent directions as far as I could tell. I know Owen was at 8+K above Keller Peak and made it back to AJ.

Dude lands ultralight on freeway onramp

This poor guy has a kinked fuel line, and lands on FWY onramp. His A&P mechanic buddy fixes the machine and he gets permission to take back off. He forgets to turn on the fuel tap and has an aborted takeoff after he gets a few feet off the ground. The FAA official smacks him on the back, the fuel tap is turned back on and he takes off correctly the second time.
