Soboba Work Party and BBQ Dec 1st & 2nd
A message from Darrel posted on the Soboba Soaring forum:
Soboba final cleanup Dec 1-2
Kevin and Roger have come to an agreement about the trash. Kevin is to pay Roger a sum of money after the sale of his mobile home. When that money is available it will be used to hire people and equipment to remove the trash. I have talked to both Kevin and Roger and they both agree that anything on the property that we can use is now ours. That includes the large trailer. Roger said we can sell it and take the money for the clean up. It's value is about $1500. There is also lots of usable lumber.
So before the bulldozers can come in and chop everything up we
need to separate the stuff. Steel barrels, Plastic barrels, Wire
spools, Paint cans, Pipe, in their separate piles. We will stack all of this behind the little hills next to the mountain that hide it from the public view.
There is a lot of trash and this will be a big undertaking for the Soboba Flyers. But I believe it could be accomplished in one weekend if we could rally enough troops.
So mark it on your calendars, Sat and Sun Dec 1, 2 for the work
party. Come for a hour, half day of both days but please come.
There will be food and drinks and maybe even some evening flying.
What to bring if you have them:
1. Sledge hammers
2. Wreaking bars.
3. Dolly might be handy
4. Gloves
5. Truck or trailer for hauling
6. Chain or rope for dragging
7. Wire cutters
8. Powered screwdrivers
9. Cutting torch
Roger is planning to be there. Maybe we can get some answers to the future of Soboba.
Please help us organize this! The club has money for the food and drinks. We also have several gas barbeques on site. We need someone to take charge of the cooking and serving.
We're counting on you! Please make this commitment. Lets continue to make Soboba a unrestricted free flying site.

Addendum -
At our last work party we cleared and smoothed out a nice large LZ for PG and HG use, but then those pesky 100+mph winds came along and rearranged some of our handywork. Darrel and Roger have since cleaned up much of the mess against the fence, but there is still much to move and dispose of. Please RSVP Darrel directly (951) 487-0053 or post here or on the Soboba forum if you can come. Roger has now said he will be providing the food, so a head count would be nice! Soboba is not known for many flying days in the fall and winter, but bring your wings just in case! Hope to see everyone there.
