Elsinore Sept 1

Arrived at launch approx 10:45. Huge dust devil on launch and both
flags blowing down already. Sunday it blew down at 11:30. Hesitated getting gliders off for a couple of minutes and then
it began to blow in. Four hanggliders and probably 6 PG's.
Set up quickly and as I was putting the nose cone on the glider began to turn and lift. I grabbed the nose wires and hung on for dear life and hollered Dust Devil. Too late glider with me hanging on to the nose wires overturned leaving me on my back in the dirt with an upside down wing. At least it didn't go over the ridge and down on the highway. Eric was right next to me and his Talon was also upside down. Spike managed to save his wing from going upside down, but it had swapped ends and moved several feet. Pretty exciting!. We all got gliders righted and did an inspection for damage. None found so we began to launch at 11:30. Bill, Spike and Eric climbed out, but I launched into a sink cycle. Had to fly straight to the E and search for lift. Started for LZ and found workable lift. Kept getting about 100 over launch, but couldn't bust through like others had done. Now the PG's were launching and

Wireless access at the LZ - Live

John Samul is a great tenant for the Cross Country Ranch house. He had a power outlet, a cat 5 cable running to his computer, and a phone line set up in the perfect spot for us to get wireless at the LZ.

I'm posting this from it.

The network to connect to is

CSS

The WPA key is

crestline

I password protected it to keep people from leeching off it down the road, as the antenna has pretty good range. I've got 4 bars at the gazebo, though it took a little bit for it to acquire the IP address. I think that's because the signal from my computer is not coming from as large an antenna.

Track log for 9-02-08. epic day, thermals to 9000ft!

Best. Flying. Day. EVER!?!!!?!!

Today was like those big air days we had last year around this time, except without those nasty thunderstorms and gust fronts. I saw 9000 several times and it was easy to climb past 8000. Lift was everywhere.

I saw 9000 around Jobs Peak in a thermal that felt like it was going to drift me back over Lake Silverwood. I had a great view of the lake from there and could also see Gregory and Arrowhead in the distance.
