archivesMarshall, 8-07-08Launched Marshall at about 5pm not expecting much but I would be presently surprised. Worked the house thermal to 5000 with a lot of drift. Flew over to Cloud and found another that Frank on his US was working. We both got 5800 or so and went back to Crestline. I made a pass by the launch and headed to the Billboard. Got back up to 5800 or so and made for Pine with Frank leading the way. Frank got to pine first and a few hundred lower than I, but by the time I got there he was climbing. I joined him and topped out around 6000. I decided to see how far west I could get. Made it down to SugarPine, but was low and had to turn back. That is the furthest I have gone west without being really high. I arrived back at Pine at about 4500, made one turn in weak lift and headed out for Regionals. I spent the next 20 minutes or so just flying back and forth across the mountain. Ended up with over an hour. And all of this was AFTER 5pm! It was a pretty awesome flight, lots of smooth lift, buoyant air and not a squeak of turbulence in between. Track Log attached. |
