archivesCrestline, 22 June 08It was blowing pretty good up at Crestline at 14:00. The Simba graph says it gusted to 30 a few times, but it seemed like it was mostly 15-22 or so. I launched the US 166 in a lull at 14:45 and climbed a few hundred right away. Got to 6200 near launch but lost it quickly heading east. Others launched, climbed up and stuck there, then headed east. I was trying to drift toward Top Town for the jump to the 18/138 interchange but kept peaking at about 5700; I don't like to head east without 6k to start. Richard Seymour Memorial Sunday June 29, 2008With great sadness, we report that Richard Seymour was fatally injured while flying on Saturday, June 21, 2008. He was 57 and had been flying for nearly 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Julie. The exact cause of the accident is uncertain, but Richard was unable to maintain control of his glider while on approach to land. The last hang gliding fatality in Los Angeles County was more than 21 years ago. Richard Seymour Memorial Saturday June 28, 2008

Its also a good touch to clear the weeds around the railroad ties to remind the Forestry Service that CSS cares. (Last year that proved not to be so bad, its mostly foxtails and wild oats that go pretty fast.) I am leaving town on July 3 so I will be missing the Fly-In but I was thinking of tackling some of the Marshall weeds this weekend. Can anyone join me Saturday, June 28? I can transport the equipment and take as many as 3 HGs and/or PGs up to launch. You can fly afterward. Elsinore 6/21 and 6/22Tough weekend at Elsinore. Some really good flights and some really short flights. Sat began to blow down around 12:15. At times it looked like there would be no flying. An occassional upslope would turn the sock around and gliders began to launch thinking it was now or never. 10 minutes after everyone launched the wind changed direction again and blew up for at least another 30 mins. The majority got flushed to the LZ. |
