Memorial Day: Jackets and Gloves at 4k

The forecast "Partly cloudy and 70 degrees" was for a parallel universe, it seems. There was 100% cloud cover and little wind most of the day. I got a half hour with the UltraSport 166, and while I wasn't desperately scratching, I did have to concentrate the few times I bumped into lift. Thermalled a little with Wisconsin Paul, who'd launched a while before me. I launched at 14:00, most didn't launch until after 15:00 or so. Most took their extended sledders and were glad to fly.

Memorial Day - Other Side of the Hill

What a difference a short distance makes. Went to Blackhawk on Monday. While eating breakfast in Hesperia the winds seemed strong and West. Arriving at launch the winds were light and blowing straight in.

Joe Greblo launch first and worked hard to find lift. Rich Gribsby launch next and found the same conditions. Getting low out towards the L/Z they finally found the strong lift but it was tight. Rich's bank angle looked to be 70 degrees but was rewarded with 1,000' up.
